The Annual Hoover-Ball National Championships

The Hoover-ball national championships are usually held each August in West Branch, Iowa. In cooperation with the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association, the West Branch Chamber of Commerce organizes the tournament as a part of Hooverfest - the annual commemoration of President Herbert Hoover's birth there in 1874. Hooverfest, produced by the Hoover Library Association, is held the first weekend of August each year. A full weekend of entertainment, the Presidential Races, Hoover-ball, and spectacular fireworks bring thousands of visitors to the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site throughout the weekend-long birthday celebration.

The national championship tournament allows teams to compete for national titles in men's and women's divisions. Men's competition is split into two divisions - 4-pound and 6-pound - based on the weight of the ball used in play. Women compete using the 4-pound ball.

The national championships have, in the past, attracted national coverage by Sports Illustrated, ESPN, CBS Sunday Morning, The Sporting News, The New Your Times, Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post.
