24. William JOHNSON Sr. was born on Dec 17 1789 in Dauphin Co., PA. He died on Sep 23 1845 in Van Buren Co., IA. He was buried in Bonaparte Cemetery. Accompanied his parents from Pennsylvania to Ohio when just 12 years old in 1801 . . first to the Cincinnati area and then to Warren Co. where William grew into manhood. He met Nancy Crain here whom he afterword married. He served in the War of 1812. He later spent time in Fountain Co., IN farming and in 1836 made settlement in Monmouth, IL. The following year he accompanied his son William J. to what is now Van Buren Co., IA. - 1890 Biographical Album of Jefferson and Van Buren Co's. IA He was married to Nancy CRAIN on Apr 11 1819 in Warren Co., OH.
25. Nancy CRAIN died
on Nov 9 188. She was born on Oct 21 1799 in Fayette Co., PA. Moved with her
parents to Warren Co., OH as a child. At the age of 19 she married William Johnson
and they remained in Ohio about 10 years before moving to Fountain Co. Indiana,
where they remained for seven years. After trying their fortunes in the far west,
they moved to Van Buren Co., IA in the spring of 1837. Children were:

Crain JOHNSON was born on Jul 18 1820. He died in 1887 in Kansas.

William James JOHNSON Jr. was born on Dec 1 1821 in Warren Co., OH. He died
on Apr 25 1909 in Van Buren Co., IA. He was buried in Bonaparte Cem.. Assisted
in the construction of the first damn accross the river at Bonaparte according
to 1890 Portrait Biographical Album. Worked at the mill for 17 yrs.
Joined with Christy to form Christy and Johnson in 1856.
Was Clerk of Court for Van Buren Co.

Sarah Caroline JOHNSON was born on Jun 7 1835 in Indiana. She died on May

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1837. Her family owned the first kerosene
lamp in Bonaparte, her father bringing a quart of kerosene from Pennsylvania
to first use in same. Her home was also the home in which the first piano which
came to Bonaparte was placed.- Bonaparte Record (The Thomas and Sarah Christy
