Unique Classroom Activities

New ideas and activities are what help to keep the classroom interesting for both the students and the teacher. I tried to bring as many new ideas into the classroom as I could. While I was there, I also tried to work with my team of teachers to take previous ideas or themes and incorporate new suggestions into the curriculum.

In the kindergarten classroom, I created a unit on spiders. I incorporated ideas from a variety of different sources to help me come up with a complete and comprehensive unit. I also took the time to share it with the rest of the kindergarten teachers, who all used at least a few ideas into their classroom.

My favorite activity was our learning web. Instead of doing a traditional KWL chart, we made a life-size spider web to help us determine what we knew, what we wanted to know, and questions we may have had. We sat in a large circle, rolling a ball of yarn from person to person. As each person got the ball, they offered information they knew or questions they may have. They would tape the yarn down in front of them and roll the rest of the ball to the next person. By the end we had a large spider’s web that represented our knowledge of spiders

I have also included what I consider some of my most inventive lesson plans to help you have a better idea of the types of creative activities I could bring to a classroom.
