Welcome to SoftShell's presence on the Internet. We are a small agricultural software company based in central Iowa. The majority of our software is marketed through the Iowa Farm Business Association for use by its members. We also produce software for other farm business associations in other states and sell software to non-members. We also produce related software for small business. See Products page for a description of all the software available. We started in 1985 with the PC MARS accounting program for IBM compatibles (DOS based). We have sold over 4000 programs to date. Refer to our History page if you are further interested in our background.
In December 1997 we completed PC MARS for Windows - Full version, similar to our Pc Mars DOS program in many ways, but designed to run under windows. It combines all the features of the DOS version with all the added capabilities of the Windows platform.

Advanced
Payroll Module for Pc Mars or Pc Mars Plus is now available. It includes
Federal and State tax tables (updated on a yearly basis), adds additional
withholdings and custom pay types and much more. See

An upgrade to Pc Mars for Windows (Version 2.2) is now available. Many of your suggested changes have been put into place. See

PC MARS PLUS for Windows (Version 2.2) is now available. If you are wanting more from your Pc Mars, check out Pc Mars Plus. This enhancement will add complete inventory
tracking, enterprise allocation, field production tracking, and livestock production data. See

Alert to PC MARS (DOS) Owners!
PC Mars DOS version is typical of most DOS based programs in that the print routine requires some 'intelligence' in the printer to interpret the print commands that the program sends each time a report is called for.
If you upgrade your printer, be sure the new printer has some resident intelligence! Windows only printers do not have this and therefore do not work with DOS programs in general.
So, don't upgrade and be disappointed. Keep the old printer or get one that can handle DOS programs. Ask the vendor before you buy!! See the printer Support page for further information.
Pentium II Problem - We've have been having problems with our DOS based programs working on fast Pentium II computers (300 MHz and above). We have recently figured out a fix for the problem. So if you have been having a problem with our programs working on fast Pentium II computers, contact us and we will send you a fix for the problem.
