Guardians of My Nest
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. I have done something, " He replied. "I created you." ~The Animals Savior - Copyright Jim Willis 1999
Here is the rest of my clan. Just about all the dogs here have a sad story to go with them, most of them where rescues. The Guardians of the Nest:
Sasha:
This is Sasha. She is what I call a wondered in. When she first arrived she was thin and fearful of everything. She had been shot clear through in two areas and didn't trust any humans. As you can see she has adapted well to the love and food she has received here. She has repaid me by doing a great job of keeping the coons and such away from the chickens and ducks. Her job is very tiring as you can see. A dog's tale: Do I Go Home Today? My family brought me to their home --- Author Unknown
Shelby: Her last owners found that a puppy was a bit more work then they had time for. I got her with the intent of giving her to a friend. But my husband who was laid up at the time & fell for her. He loves his couch spud. How could I say no. This is a photo of Shelby when she arrived. The photos below are after she was with us for a couple weeks.
Well we have added a couple more newbies to the household. Here they are with their stories.
Wild Rose Acres Gretchen Meet the new gal on the block. Gretchen
Gretchen means little Pearl. Since my elder Rottweiler was Gretta, which means Pearl. I thought how fitting that Gretchen should mean little pearl. What a sweetheart she is. Gretchen was my Birthday gift this year, and what a gift. She is a great little pup full of personality. I have to give a great big thanks and tons of credit to the lady whom I got her from. She is a very social pup, outgoing and just a blast to be around.
Gretchen will be trained to do a variety of task. She has already been in on her first big kill. They got a rat out in the barn. Gretchen ended up with the prize and it took a bit of muscle to get her let go of it. Definitely need to get the drop it command down LOL, once I had retrieved it she was off looking for another. I was so ecstatic. She is going to be such a great help with the vermin around here. Well its been a while and Gretchen has been growing. She is now 6 months old and a big girl if I do say so myself. At her last vet appointment she weighed in at 79 pounds , she was 6 months old . She is a big sweetheart still, just now learning that she can protect and guard things.
Check back in often to watch her grow. New photo taken winter 2006
Meet the newest addition:Cuda
Cuda's story starts with her mom. Her mom was brought to me to be bred. Her owners had decided to breed her and keep a puppy. As her mom had some issues that made it impossible to keep her. It is a long story , but they bought the mom as a young adult and she came with some dangerous habits that they could not deal with. When the pups were born there were 6. The mom dog refused to take care of any of the male pups but one. Later he had to be put to sleep due to genetic issues. That left the 3 little girls. The owner of the mom took two of the pups. This left Cuda. 3 days after her 1st vet visit she developed a hernia. A little pouch on her tummy. She will have surgery in a couple more months to correct it and get spayed. This is how Cuda came to live with us. She is a joy and so smart. She is also Gretchen's best friend. I tell you them two are always together. They have a great time on their little adventures and look out for one another. If you are wondering about her name, it came to me in a dream. I don't know if it has any meaning, just that it stuck.
Cuda is turning out to be a big girl, she is a perfect combination of her dam and sire . She is also my right hand man. She knows the difference between the goats, alpaca , bull , cows , or a hog . This comes in so handy ,,as allot of my stock all run together . I can tell her to get the bull and she knows who I want her to get . She is with me all the time and is a very good girl . I will keep training and teaching her things as she matures . I look forward to many years with my farm hand at my side .
You can sure see her daddy in her, in this picture . She has his intense stare .
Come back and watch as Cuda grows and changes. Meet Tessa : Meet Tessa. We where told she had aggression issues, but have not seen any, she is a really sweet girl who loves everyone she meets. When she arrived she had a big lump on her hind leg. We had it checked out and it was found to be a benign cancerous tumor. We have had it removed and she has had a couple surgeries since, but now is almost all healed and playing hard again with the other dogs. Part of the reason she was re-homed is her people moved to the country with pictures of Tessa being able to run and play. Only to find they could not insure their new home as long as they owned Tessa. You see some insurance companies will not let you get insurance if you own certain breeds of dogs. So check this out before taking in a dog or getting a new pup. Since Tessa is Gretchen's sister we decided she could come here to live. She spends her days learning the ropes of farm life and playing with her sister and all the others that reside here. Come back often to see new photos of her.
Tessa's wound after her tumor was removed.
This is Tessa as of April of 2007 . She has healed from her surgeries , has learned allot about living on a farm and loves nothing more then playing with her sister Gretchen and her friend Cuda . We lovingly call her and her sister the ha-duff-a-lump sisters .
I would like to introduce Tazr . He is the newest member of my fur family . Tazr comes from a great couple [Jim & Steph Oswald from Remsen Iowa ] that raise quality old fashion German Shepherds [not the new banana backed ski slope type] , these are the large , straight backed , hard working kind . They also raise Burnese Mountain Dogs. Tazr's parents are well rounded and accomplished dogs.
At this time he is just loving being a
pup and getting to know everyone here . That is quite the task when
you are a little fuzzy guy . He will join Cuda
in helping with the farm work as he gets older and bigger . Tazr has been growing and learning , below you find a couple new photos of him , He is 3 months old in these . He is doing good with his commands and learning something every day . I have to say he is a joy to have .
As you can see his ears are finally up . He has such a regal apperance . Hard to believe when I brought him home a few weeks ago he wasnt much bigger then his little buddy Vinny .
