It seems only yesterday that 168 innocent Americans perished in
Oklahoma City in the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history – pre-9/11.
After saving lives, the top priority on that fateful day was
"Whodunit?"
Then things got worse. As the nation tried to figure out "whodunit,"
the political left already had an answer, and no amount of facts would
change it: "The killer was 'the political right.' "
Mass Murderer #1: Conservative Talk Radio
Remember? According to the left's account, there was one bomber, 150
million co-conspirators and, at the top, a few dozen hate-driven
conservative talk radio show hosts who inspired the crime.
Said President Clinton of these damnable talk radio hosts:
"[They are] purveyors of hate and division ... [they] leave the
impression, by their very words, that violence is acceptable."
The leftist media took the cue. Bryant Gumbel added: "The bombing in
Oklahoma City has focused renewed attention on the rhetoric that's been
coming from the right and those who cater to angry white men.
"While no one's suggesting right-wing radio jocks approve of violence
[that's exactly what he was suggesting], the extent to which their
approach fosters violence is being questioned by many observers, including
the president. ...
"Right-wing talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Bob Grant, Oliver
North, G. Gordon Liddy, Michael Reagan and others take to the air every
day with basically the same format: Detail a problem, blame the government
or a group, and invite invective from like-minded people."
Time senior writer Richard Lacayo piled on: "In a nation that has
entertained and appalled itself for years with hot talk on the radio ...
the inflamed rhetoric of the '90s is suddenly an un-indicted
co-conspirator in the blast."
Mass Murderer #2: Government Watchdogs
Co-conspirators all! Just as guilty, Clinton said, are those who,
Lincoln-like, "believe the greatest threat to freedom comes from" within,
or who, Jefferson-like, say "nuts" to trusting in men and deem it their
patriotic duty to be government watchdogs.
"How dare you call yourselves patriots!" President Clinton fumed at
Michigan State University.
After the speech, Clinton flew to Russia to celebrate Stalin's victory
in what the Soviets called the "Great Patriotic War."
Go figure.
Mass Murderer #3: Every American Conservative
Other co-conspirators whom the left indicted included anti-globalists,
homeschoolers, fundamentalist Christians, conspiracy theorists, gun
owners, income tax opponents, land rights activists, constitutionalists,
John Birchers – and the Republican Party, for tolerating all of the above.
Silence Them
The left had a ready answer to "Whodunit?" and they had a ready
solution, as well: Silence them all!
President Clinton, fresh from his Josef Stalin victory party, invoked
Stalinist rhetoric in Montana. Real patriots don't allow citizens to
criticize the federal government, he suggested. "When you hear someone
doing it, you ought to stand up and double up your fist and stick it in
the sky and shout them down."
He was serious.
Clinton & Co. called for a reinstatement of the pre-Reagan
"Fairness Doctrine," a pro-communist law that forced radio and television
stations during the '60s and '70s to counter all commentary against
socialists and communists with "free and equal time" in defense of
socialists and communists.
There was nothing fair about it. It was Economics 101. No privately
owned station could afford to give away free air time, so for two decades,
none of them did, and true conservatives were booted off the air.
Clinton was ready to finish the job that Reagan had interrupted. But
there's more.
Jeffrey Herf of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton
University demanded that the Republican Party purge itself of its far
right elements. "[They must draw a] clear and firm boundary between the
democratic and the undemocratic paranoid right" and create a social
climate in which the "radical" right is "subjected to regular moral and
political criticism and denunciation." This was called for because all
"right-wing extremists," no matter how harmless or responsible they may
appear, are latent mass murderers.
You get the idea. America thought Oklahoma City was about terrorism and
mass murder; leftists thought it something quite different – a godsend for
rethinking the Bill of Rights respecting "righty."
The Real Terrorists
No wonder, then, that the participants in this shameless attack on the
right fall silent as evidence mounts that Iraqi terrorists – not the
political right – ordered the hit on Oklahoma City, and that the Clinton
administration likely covered it up.
Shining a light on the Mideast connection, Americanist journalist
William F. Jasper was responsible for the earliest, most authoritative
investigative reports. No one should fail to read and reread his work. (1)
But while Jasper's efforts are noteworthy, it is legal action that
threatens to finally bust the barn door open and shine a floodlight on
years of Clintonesque deception.
On March 14, conservative watchdog Judicial Watch, most noted for its
numerous lawsuits against the Clinton administration, filed suit against
the Republic of Iraq on behalf of 14 survivors of the April 19, 1995,
bombing of the Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City.
The complaint (2)
cites Philippine intelligence and law enforcement sources concerning
meetings between convicted Murrah building bombing accomplice Terry
Nichols and Ramzi Youssef, the mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center
bombing, during Nichols' travel to the Philippines between 1990 and 1994.
Additional evidence obtained under the Freedom of Information Act
reveals Interpol's efforts to apprehend two additional Oklahoma City
bombing suspects and information in the agency's files associating Ramzi
Youssef with the attack.
While the complaint presents direct and indirect evidence linking Iraq
to the crime, some of the complaint's most damning bits of evidence regard
a government cover-up, e.g.:
- The written and verbal confession of Abdul Hakim Murad, obtained by
the FBI three months after the Murrah building bombing, that Ramzi
Youssef's "liberation army" was responsible for the bombing.
- Pentagon assertions that McVeigh was an Iraqi agent and had
collected Iraqi telephone numbers prior to his arrest.
- A March 1998 Timothy McVeigh-copyrighted "Essay on Hypocrisy," which
defended Iraq's right to "stockpile chemical or biological weapons" and
returned again and again to the topic of Iraq.
The victims never
were told of any of this, nor were you. Judicial Watch vows to change
that. Victims' rights advocate President Bush ought to do the same – for
the sake of the victims, for the sake of government reform, for the sake
of justice, and for the sake of shaming the shameful political left for
its malicious political opportunism.
