"Nothing good ever happens fast in aquariums, only bad things happen fast"-  This is a quote you will likely hear many times.  It would be wise if you heed it's advise.  Drastic measures for any problem are usually worse for your aquarium than the original problem.  Patience should become your best friend.

If you are having virtually any trouble at all keeping your aquarium chances are very good that somebody has already had the same trouble.  The answers to many problems for a beginner are often quite readily solved.  The most I can say is the more you learn the more you know.

Sources for learning could be on the net, in books, the Local Fish Store, or even some other hobbyist.  What I would advise you to do is never take anything for fact until you have proven it to yourself.  Many times you will run into conflicting information.  This is the nature of this hobby.  There are many ways to reach the same end, and at least as many ends to reach.

Be advised that often times the Local Fish Store (LFS) does Not have your best interest in mind when they try to sell a costly solution to whatever ailment your tank may suffer from.  I have even noted that on many occasions their "Free" advise is hardly worth the conversation.  Yet they do have their place, and some of them are good places to get information.  What I try to do is get at least two sources of information that appear similar, then judge for myself the accuracy of the information.

Some not so commonly utilized sources of information would include, local professionals (often found at the Zoo),  the Federal Government, and local places of higher education.  You may be surprised at the volume of quality help that is available from these sources that many simply overlook.  I would say many never get past the local fish store when learning.  The problem with this is that many simply get frustrated and quit.  Not that I mind stepping in and getting good deals on used equipment that they will no longer need, but I think more people would stay in this hobby if they could easily find the information that they need.
