Supplements:

I would rather not have to address this topic at all but I have a few points I would like to make.  I will attempt to tread lightly, but as always I am just relaying how I see things which is not necessarily the popular or scientifically correct way.

I am a firm believer that the best additive of all is a partial water change.  If something is getting out of whack, "Boom!" here comes the water change!  That is almost always my answer for "issues" that pop-up.

The only "additives" I use are those needed to bring IO (Instant Ocean) up to reef tank specifications prior to adding it to my tank.  The rest is dealt with by my calcium reactor and regular water changes.

I would like to strongly suggest that you not use single part "fixes" for anything as they often cause more trouble than good.  I know many use them and some to great benefit, however for the new to intermediate reef keeper, they are just not worth the risk.  Even the two part mixes can cause trouble if one does not fully comprehend what they effect.

I'm going to steer clear of recommending any supplements/additives by either name or brand.  I would however caution the use of any "Snake Oil" type product that claims to do things that are not specified, quantified, or are otherwise questionable.

If your going to use any supplements at all I would suggest you can at least verify with testing that you actually need them.  Then only use what you need to get it back in line and make sure you don't form a habit out of it without testing of some sort.
