The Search for Spirituality
The Creativity & Variety of God?
“Variety is the spice of life,” is a phrase that most people know. A person’s search for spirituality involves this very truth. When you and I do not know God in His creation and the workings of His Spirit; we will try to find other ways to satisfy this hunger for the excitement and thrill of variety.
The boredom of modern people is reflected in our want for more things, possessions, experiences and thrills. Young people today, whether they are pre-teen, teenagers, college or post college, have more in technology, recreation and material choices than ever before. For example, computers, ipads, smart phones, etc. have given us a multitude of choices regarding games, educational exercises, books, magazines, communication, information, etc. But the comment is often heard, “I am bored.” “There is nothing to do.” In addition, just think of all the choices that radio, television, transportation give us, especially in North America; and still we hear that not only young people, but older adults are also looking for other things to do, another place to go or another thrill to experience.
Oh, how vast is the creativity and variety of God! Just recently my wife and I had the privilege and opportunity to travel and enjoy the wonders of God’s creation in Arizona with its warmer weather. How often do we think about the variety of plants, which we experienced in the arid Southwest? How often do we think about the wonders of the sun, the moon, the planets and all the stars? How often do we think about the multitude of animals on the earth with the many different species and breeds within domesticated animals? How vast is the expanse of the oceans and the seas, mankind has only begun to explore them! It is always an exciting discovery to watch various programs on television and see what new discoveries are being made by scientists in the realms of agriculture, weather, medicine, human biology, etc.
When People are awed and amazed by the inventions and technology of mankind, I am reminded and believe that people are really searching for a deeper inner spiritual need, which can only be satisfied through faith in Almighty God. He is creative and wondrous in all His ways, if we believe that He is the Creator of the heavens, the earth and all that is in them.
God’s creativity and wondrous work is also seen in how He loves people and draws them to Himself through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. It is continually amazing how God is at work in the lives of people convincing them and helping them see how He loves them, cares for them and draws them to faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
The testimony of a man comes to mind, who was drawn to trust in God and belief in Him, while this man was driving across the upper plains and mountainous regions, in awe of what he was seeing and experiencing. The terrain, the expanse of the sky, the vastness of the plains and the ruggedness of the mountains caused him to stop and reflect that there had to be Someone bigger than himself. As result he began searching and was led to Jesus Christ.
Then there are the stories of how people have come to Christ through the blessedness of Christian homes, Christian co-workers or the reading of the Bible and Christian literature. Each story is different.
The wonders and creativity of God are amazing to see and experience. People are searching in all the wrong places for stimulation, pleasurable experiences, personal thrills, etc. God is more than ready to reveal Himself and provide a richness of variety and wonder, if people will only trust and believe, depend and rely on Him through the acceptance of His Son Jesus Christ and lovingly following Him.
A Christian was invited to admire a great skyscraper. After looking at its majestic height, He called his host’s attention to a little flower that he had on his lapel, saying. “True, this building speaks of man’s achievement, but this flower with its life speaks of God’s creation. I can see God more clearly in the flower than in the skyscraper.”
May we ever live in amazement of the creativity, wonder & love of God!
