The Search for Spirituality

                A Longing for Love,

Is found Only in the Lord!

It is the Christmas season of the year. It is a time of the year when people are looking for gifts for loved ones and friends and even anticipating gifts and presents from others. People may be look-ing for gifts for the special individuals in their lives; and their desire is to find just those right gifts suited just for those particular people.

The search for spirituality for people also involves a gift. The longing for love, is a longing for spirituality. The longing for affirmation and acceptance is experienced, only when a person receives a gift at the deepest level of their being.

The search for spirituality is a longing for love that is pursued by some through the love of pleasure, the love of money, the love of possessions or the lust for power. In fact it says in the Bible specifically in 2nd Timothy 3:2-4 that people in their search will become "lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." Such behaviors and attitudes develop and occur, because people in their search for the spirituality of love look in all the wrong places.

It is so sad to say and so very sad to see how people have "exchanged the glory of the immortal God and exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised." Romans 1:23,25.

There are several places in the Bible, which tell us about love and how it is experienced and what it means for us in our search for spirituality. First, of all, read these words from 1st John 4:7,9 "for love comes from God. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him." And the following sentence from John 3:16 arranged in this unique way communicates the truth about the search for spirituality and what love is all about.

GODThe Greatest Lover
SO LOVEDThe Greatest Degree
THE WORLD The Greatest Company
THAT HE GAVE The Greatest Act
HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SONThe Greatest Gift
THAT WHOSOEVERThe Greatest Opportunity
BELIEVESThe Greatest Simplicity
IN HIMThe Greatest Attraction
SHOULD NOT PERISHThe Greatest Promise
BUT The Greatest Difference
HAVEThe Greatest Certainty
EVERLASTING LIFE The Greatest Possession

The story of Christmas is all about love. It is about the love of a man named Joseph for a woman named Mary. It is about the faith and obedience of Mary regarding the Lord's will. It is a love that is so deep, loyal and good that God gives His Son Jesus to them. They are entrusted with the privilege and responsibility of caring for Him and loving Him; until the time is fulfilled for Jesus to begin His ministry, sharing His Heavenly Father's love and the truth of His Kingdom. Then Jesus demonstrated the love of God in so many ways, ultimately giving His life on the cross of Calvary. But Jesus is raised from the dead by His Heavenly Father and ascends into heaven to be the Saviour and deliverer, the giver of forgiveness and love to all who receive and accept the gift of God by repentance through faith in Him.

The search for true spiritual love cannot be experienced without Christmas and the Cross. May you know the love of God in the Christ of Christmas!
