Eye Patch Club

Prevent Blindness Iowa would like to introduce you to “Patch” the Pup (shown on the right). Patch is the friendly mascot of the Eye Patch Club. The Eye Patch Club is a program for children with amblyopia (or lazy eye). Members of this club receive a kit with fun games and information to make it easier for children, their families and schools to learn about amblyopia treatment. The kit contains:
The Eye Patch Club Newsletter
Classroom Guide
Eye Patch Club calendar and stickers
Refrigerator magnet
Pen pal form
This kit is designed to go to school the first day the child wears an eye patch
with a mini-science lesson
explaining vision in easy to
understand terms as well as sample patches and ideas on how to make the unusual
seem usual.
One example in the lesson is having a pirate day where everyone wears an
eye patch.
In addition, the newsletter provides information and stories for both
parents and children that share
encouragement and coping strategies.
