Scott township was officially organized in October 1861. No towns were
established in the township. One settler, R. S. Willett had an orchard and
nursery and won an award for the best variety of apples on display at the 1876
Exhibition in Philadelphia.
There were two churches built in Scott Township: Fairview Presbyterian in
1886, and Fairmont Methodist in 1888, in Section 9. Both are now gone. The
Scott Township Cemetery is located in Section 16, but only a few stones
remain.
A gang of thieves and counterfeiters often holed up in a barn in Section
18. They were known as the Long Gang.
The southeastern part of Scott Township as well as parts of Lincoln and
Deep River Townships, comprised what is known as Irish Ridge, as many Irish
settled there. There were both Protestant and Catholic Irish, which caused
some friction at times. The Enniskillin True Blue Loyal Orange Lodge #146 was
formed in October 1876.
