Poppin' Johnnies of Southeast Iowa
Well, it’s 2009 and the USA has a new president and the first Poppin’ Johnnies meeting is also history. We, as a club, also have some new leadership. The officers for 2009 are:
President Duane Bass
Vice-President Dan Cassill
Secretary Ron Bride
Treasurer Garry Feldmann
Historian Chris Cobler
Directors Max Jones
Newsletter Jim Lay
At the January 19 meeting there was discussion about the George Feldmann award. This is an award of up to $500 for restoration of a classic tractor or machine. Applications need to be in by the end of February. Awards will be announced at the March meeting. Any one of you younger set interested in this need to talk to Garry Feldmann and submit an application pronto.
Formation of a garden tractor club is being discussed as a possibility—all brands are eligible for membership if there is enough interest. If you like the idea, see Max @ Mowers and More, our meeting host and your source for all your lawn and garden needs plus toys, gifts, and memorabilia.
The DVD’s of the Harvest and Plowing Days are in. I’ve watched mine several times with family and friends. The price is only $15 and it will make you smile to watch it!! Keith Hill will have more available at our next meeting or call him @641-777-8324.
Our next meeting is Feb. 16th @ Mowers and More again. The evening entertainment will be 1/16th scale micro-mini tractor and truck pulling. The demonstration will be inside in the shop and loud. Please don’t forget ear protection (Max@ Mowers and More will have some available for sale if you forget your ear plugs). We saw some of the pullers at the January meeting and they look formidable! Other interesting club plans for 2009 are:
March 16: local area dealer memorabilia presentation by a long time collector
April 20: A combine discussion with combines on site—what they are, how they work, and why. A 12A John Deere combine and perhaps others will be on hand for the discussion.
May 18: Tanner Voss is bringing in a nicely restored JD720 for us to admire. Thanks, Tanner, we are looking forward to it and your discussion of the project.
June ???: How about a tractor ride, about 40 miles with a break in the middle—it’s in the planning stages—more on it later.
July 15-18: Time for the tractor show with the 4-H Expo in Ottumwa. The show is at BridgeView Center and the tractor pull in the park on Friday night (July 17). The featured tractor this year is the Minneapolis-Moline. Let’s get the tractors tuned up for the pull and shined up for the show!
Dues for 2009 are due. $15.00 is the amount.See Garry Feldman to get current.
www.poppiunjohnnies.com is our website. If you have any ads or restoration photos to share contact Dan Cassill through the website, or regular photos can also be scanned and posted on the web. Please share with everyone!
