August, 2000
The Pink Tower Preschool of Grinnell is delighted to announce that it hired a new director in spring of this year. Kathrin Frech received a kindergarten teaching degree from her native Germany, and most recently the University of Northern Iowa, where she just graduated with a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten for two years in Germany, and has been teaching in the United States since 1992. While at UNI, Kathrin taught a kindergarten class at the UNI Price Laboratory School, was a preschool teacher and after-school program supervisor in Traer, and aided in a first-grade class at Pineview Elementary School. A dedicated, committed and experienced preschool teacher, Kathrin is excited about her new position at the Pink Tower Preschool, and is happy to join the Grinnell community.
In addition to Kathrin, there are several other highly qualified staff members at the Pink Tower. Ed Tews of Bloomfield, Iowa and a Grinnell College graduate joined the team as a teacher last January, and acted as interim director for a short period. He will be continuing as a full-time teacher at the Pink Tower this fall. Ed taught at the Grinnell College Preschool for 3 years, and has a degree in Studio Art and Education, and is currently putting the final touches on a Secondary Art teaching certificate.
Colleen VanZee of Brooklyn and Joy Murphy of Grinnell joined the Pink Tower as Teacher's Aides in March. Colleen has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa and most recently worked as a preschool substitute teacher in Brooklyn with the BGM School District. Joy was a former daycare provider in Wilton, Iowa, and has enjoyed working with children again. Jessie Tomlinson of Grinnell joined the Pink Tower team this summer. Jessie is studying in the Education program at Waldorf College.
The Pink Tower is now accepting applications for its Fall Session, which begins on August 21. For applications and more information, go to our registration page, or call 236-7999.
