I devoted the day on Thursday to seeing some of the park's natural attractions. I organized my trip to take me through Mammoth Hot Springs, lunch at the Canyon, and eventually to Old Faithful.

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

Soda Butte Soda Butte. A nearly extinct hot spring. Located on the northeast entrance road.
A remnant of the 1989 fires. Fires rejuvinate the forest, but many stupid people think that fires shouldn't be allowed to burn in the park. On the road between Mammoth and Tower. Remnant of the 1989 fires.
Petrified Tree A Petrified Tree. This is the only one left of 3 that stood on this spot. The other two were destroyed by souvenir collectors. This one is protected from vandals by a tall wrought iron fence. Along the road between Mammoth and Tower.
Mammoth Hot Springs from a distance of about 1 mile. On the the road between Mammoth and Tower. Mammoth Hot Springs from a distance of about 1 mile.
Opal Terrace Opal Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs. The hot spring which feeds created this terrace deposits travertine at the rate of about one foot per year. Note the elk resting on the terrace shelves.
