We are a cottage industry, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is known as "Home of the Originals". It has been our pleasure to design and develop pedal toy airplanes which are representative of distinct models of popular aircraft for the do-it-yourself builder. These pedal toys are designed to be strong, safe and enjoyable for both the little pilots and the builder. The toys have adjustable pedal crank height to accommodate the average 3 to 7 year old child.
All models utilize basic construction of 3/8" exterior grade plywood. Control systems are fabricated from 1/2" electrical conduit with an industrial caster for tailwheel steering. The main wheels are 8", steel and rubber, lawnmower wheels riding on ball bearings. Some of these models utilize part of a toy football on the nose to represent the prop spinner.
The full size patterns, detailed instructions and sketches lead the builder through a rewarding experience. By using basic shop tools and following the instructions, the builder can create a treasured toy, built to 'old world' craftsmanship. He will also enjoy a few new experiences in turning a sheet of plywood into a treasure.
To assist the builder, there are support kits. There is a wheels & hardware kit which saves the builder many trips to the hardware store looking for 'the right stuff'. Also, the builder will be buying only the quantities needed. Special services like modifying the drive wheel, trimming and welding the steering caster, are provided with the kits. This nets a considerable savings in both time and money. Aviation Products, Inc., also produces decal sets which give your models the finishing touch and adds the required details in the most practical and economical manner. There are steel kits wiith a pedal crank and the other steel parts fabricated per the plans. Aluminum sheet metal kits, drilled and formed, ready to install are also available. The respective order blanks are included with each set of plans.
