DENNIS
FRANK
(Great-Grandpa)
Had three sons, Le Roy the youngest, and
three daughters. The first home Dennis
Frank knew was when he moved to
Indiana to a two story log cabin with an outside stairway. The
cabin was located on high ground near the Limberlost Creek in
Bearcreek Township. Dennis came to Jay County, Indiana, as a small child
withh his parents, William Sumner and Catherine Fidela McDowell
Frank, and an older sister, Mary. He had been born in Mercer Co.,
OH. in 1887. His father made furniture in that first home, and
later built a small frame house East of the Mortimore School. A
younger sister, Lillie, was born in Jay Co. The family attended
the Christian Union Church.
The exciting Bryant oil boom was on as Dennis grew up. A
Sunday afternoon pastime for boys of that time was climbing the
greatoil derricks. Dennis was to have an interest in oil wells all of his
life.
Dennis
operated a thrashing machine in the late 1930's and early 40's.
He helped form the Jay Co. Rural Electric Membership Corp. and
was one of the first directors. The family was active in the
Macklin Church. Hope died in 1945 at the age of 51. They had 6
children. Dennis's farm was just East of his fathers farm.
