Dave and Bev Sutter Since 1964, except for four service years in the Navy as a cook on a nuclear submarine, Dave has been calling for the dancers of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Bev has been cueing rounds since 1982.
Dave
and Bev met in 1966 at square dance lessons that Dave was teaching for the new
Pistols & Petticoat Square Dance Club in Platteville, WI. They married Sept.
26, 1970 in Cuba City, WI, and have lived in Norfolk, Va., Hazel Green, WI.,
currently residing in Asbury, IA. They have four children, two sons and a daughter
are married, a daughter getting married July 18, 2003, and two grandchildren,
Sam & Sophie Sutter.
Dave and Bev, calling and cueing dances, travel from Des Moines, Iowa to Chicago,
Illinois, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the Quad Cities, Iowa, Albert Lea, Minnesota
to Ottumwa, Iowa. They have been producers for the Annual Spring and Fall Hoedowns
held in Dubuque for the last 19 years. They have been programming chairpersons
for four of the Iowa State Conventions held in Dubuque. They are members of
Callerlab and have received recognition for over ‘25 years of Calling
and Contributing to Square Dancing’ and Bev is the Chair of the Partner’s
Committee. At the 2000 Iowa State Convention, Dave was named a recipient of
Iowa’s Caller & Cuer Hall of Fame Award.
Dave and Bev are the Tri-State Caller and Cuer Association. Dave calls nine
to eleven dances per month and 2 sets of mainstream lessons and plus workshops
every week from September through March in Dubuque and Maquoketa, Iowa. They
take their summers off to avoid caller burn-out and spend time with their children
and grandchildren and do a lot of camping.
Dave is a Safety Supervisor for Royster-Clark, East Dubuque, IL., and is certified
in and an Instructor of CPR and First Aid. Bev is a sub bus driver for the Dubuque
Community Schools, certified in CPR and First Aid, and writes articles for the
new Square Dancing Today Magazine.
Dave loves camping, just took up golf, and doesn’t get to do nearly enough
fishing. Bev loves camping, golf, designing and sewing a new dress for each
of the Hoedowns.
