The dreaded CPI Form (continued-IV)

6 - Days of Instruction

Learning from Life

The law requires 148 days of instruction, so any number you put on this line greater than 147 is sufficient. By statute, the school year runs from July 1 of one calendar year to June 30 of the next, so the days listed must be between those two dates. For unschoolers, certainly, and for many others as well, you could easily put 365 days in that blank.

What constitutes a school day is left up to the parent to define. Yes, the schools have a definition of a school day, but that's in reference to funding. You need not be concerned about any number but the 148.

7-Supervising Teacher Information

For those using supervision as their mode of compliance, all this information is required, except that the phone number and signature of the teacher are optional, as the form states. The crucial piece of information is the "folder number," because that six-digit number is the link to all of the rest of the information.
