ABOUT THE ARTIST |
Nick Friess is an artist who creates surrealistic assemblage paintings out of personal or found objects in his basement studio in northwest of Jefferson, Iowa. The theme of this work reflects the pain, suffering and memory of his experiences in Vietnam where he served as a Green Beret Medic until wounded. He received a Combat Medical Badge, Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He is currently obsessed with drawing a series of faces that haunt him nightly. These are drawn with simple materialspencil or ball point pen and paper, and occasionally a set of crayons. The series is called simply "Airing". |
