Canoeing the Scenic Des Moines River

Cranes, ducks and eagles flying atop the colorful, wooded river bluffs, make the Des Moines the ultimate weekend getaway. The gentle flowing Des Moines River provides some of the best recreation in Iowa. Canoeists find solitude in the river's tranquil waters, while the rougher waters from the old dams offer a challenge for those looking for a little adventure.

Hawkeye Canoe Rental in Keosauqua provides rental canoes and pick up and drop off service at any of the canoe accesses to the Des Moines River. You can find these accesses in the following locations:
Selma, on the south side of the river
Kilbourne, on the north side of the river
    Pittsburg, northwest to Austin Park
Keosauqua, one block east of the Hotel
Bentonsport, near the Odd Fellows Hall
Bonaparte, city park near Bonaparte's Retreat
Bonaparte, south side of the river 2 miles downstream
Farmington, north side of river 2 blocks downstream from the bridge

Hawkeye Canoe Rental can be reached at 319-293-3897 or 319-293-3550
