Manilla Telephone Company

Providing Internet service through Iowa Network Services

Internet is provided through a local telephone number, and supports the latest 56K V.90 standard as well as US Robotics' former X2 56K. Older 14.4 , 28.8, and 33.6 modems are still compatible. We employ 3Com (formerly US Robotics) Total Control with HiPER DSP hardware/software to interface our customers with the World Wide Web.

The new V.90 standard seems to still be evolving and we have updated the software a few times. Your reported connect speed is actually an estimate determined by several factors. Number of phones, ringers, distance from the central office, modem software are just a few things to consider. Your phone line is designed for voice communication, not high speed data. We see connect speeds as high as 53,333 in town, mostly 42,000 to 46,666 a few miles in the country. The longest lines, 5 miles and longer, report 22.8 and 33.6 speeds. Actual throughput is determined by the current load of the internet itself, and the site you are trying to reach. Peak usage periods seem to be 7PM to 10PM.

Our current rate is $20 per month for unlimited local access, an e-mail account, and 20 Megabytes for your web pages in the basic showcase. (like this one) There is a one time set-up fee.

We are pleased to announce DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) service starting November, 2001. DSL is several times faster than conventional modems, and keeps your phone line free to answer calls at the same time. Our DSL employs AG Communications' SuperLine technology to deliver high speed data to our customers up to 5 miles from the office. Residential Service starts at $39.95 per month, includes Internet access and E-mail account, 20 Megabytes for your web pages in the basic showcase. Installation and deposit fees apply, stop in for a demo or call for details.
