Pictured beside is the old pasture which was burned and then planted with native grasses and forbes.
Following a burn on April 18, 2000, with help and seeds provided by David's brother, Bill, who owns some restored prairie in Illinois, we planted our prairie starting in spring of 2000.
During the summer, species of golden rods, field thistles, milkweed, asters, coneflowers, and other native species were observed.
The area was again sowed on October 29, 2000 and burned on November 18, 2000.
Below are some pictures from the burn we did in April, 2000.
Back fire (burning into the wind, slow and more controled.)
Head fire (burning with the wind, very fast and frightening.)
Below are some pictures from the burn we did on November 18, 2000. The weather was cold and damp so the fire was spotty at best.
