Life under a Prairie Sun

The Larabee-Zierath's Home

Image of a wonderful sunset.

Welcome to the Larabee-Zierath's website! At this site we want to share with you pieces of our awe-filled life in the open country near West Liberty, Iowa as well as inform you of the progress of our attempt at a 2-acre prairie restoration project.

We live in a gracious 2-story farmhouse built in 1890. One gift that contributes to our joy of living in this place is that the sunsets most evenings are simply spectacular and nicely framed by our large front window (the sunrises aren't so bad either, but harder to see). The prairie sun provides a daily visual reminder of all the blessings we receive from this land.

As we began to experience life on this land we realized that we wanted to restore it to its native form, the tall-grass prairie, to help us understand it more fully.

As you move about this site you'll find David's details on the prairie restoration plans and progress, stories by Pam about day-to-day moments, and reflections on how this "exterior landscape", this place given to us by God, influences our "interior landscapes", our spirits. You'll also find photos of the ordinary and extraordinary, a list of resources that we have found helpful, and links to sites that relate to all this somehow (example: we're skywatchers for a Davenport news station, so you can get up to date weather readings for West Liberty!).
