This is how I started the current trike. I Cut the bug pan just in front of the torsion bar, ground steel for severl days, and began welding. Started with the tube across the bottom of the frame so I had a perfectly straight reference point for the rest of the trike. I Then welded the first of the frame tubes to that, and added the outriggers for running boards. Notice the seat? It's one of only 2 things I will salvage off the original trike. I will have it recovered. Even has seat belts!

Front view.

Missing a clear picture here of both sets of top and bottom tubes and the piece of 1/8" steel plate I'm using, almost like a firewall.

Here's a pic that you can see the plate, top and bottom set of tubes welded in. The fenders were given to me by a guy I work with who builds Leman Trike Conversions.

Front view. This is a 12" over stock springer with an 18" wheel/tire and twisted spring bars. I had a special axle machined and had the hub machined to put a speedo pickup on it. I've got 45 degrees rake on this puppy.

I put the extra "chin" on the front uprights to give extra room for wiring, brake and clutch parts, and extra ballast if needed.

The handlebars are just mocked up at this point. They are 3/4" custom bent with some serious pullback. I sent them to Florida and had them rechromed. They also came off the original basket case.

Back view of trike. VW motor is completed. The motor is a 1600cc type 3 that I converted to a type 1.

Ignoring the HUGE pole that keeps the house out of my basement, you can start to see the shape of the trike coming together.

Here's another pic of the pole, I mean trike.
