"JOE"

We started with "Old Joe".
Joe is a 31 year old "Leo Joe Reed II" bred quarter horse. He was born in April of 1970 in Palm Springs, CA. I don’t know a lot about his early years, but he was used at stud and is listed in the AQHA stud book, and I know that he was used for roping until he developed navicular problems. I bought him at an auction in Mira Loma, CA when he was 14 years old. I moved to SW Missouri in 1988 and brought Joe and a 2 yr. old dun filly "Carrie" with me. In 1992 I left my husband and had to sell Carrie and a paint mare that I had purchased. Joe went to a family with two little girls with the promise that he would come back to me if they ever decided they didn’t want him any longer. That day came about 2 years ago. I was living in faculty housing at the college, so Joe lived at my ex’s house until Eddie and I bought this place. We brought Joe home here and for about a month he had no one to talk to but the neighbor’s yearling heifers. Now we have a total of 8 horses and he is in heaven! Joe has been brought out of retirement to teach my youngest daughter how to ride. He’s still the favorite of my older daughter as well. Joe is one of those horses you would just love to clone! He’ll pony the most unruly colts, walk through a creek without hesitation, and always be the same every time you ride him. He is also very much the herd boss and won’t put up with any garbage from "his" girls.
