No matter where you travel in the United States — or, for that matter, around the world — you can find some kind of museum to visit. And why not give it a go? Whether you enjoy the Old Masters, contemporary art, sculpture, historical memorabilia, rock 'n' roll, Elvis, farm life, classic cars, or anything else, some organization has probably collected it, catalogued it, and put it on display. This Web site offers a chance to learn about places and spaces online that you might never have the chance to visit in person. Click on the link for Virtual Museum Tours and you'll can be entranced for as long as you want! Supporters also produced a series of video programs that have been shown on PBS, with preview clips available on the Web site. Collateral materials (books, DVDs) and video clips of upcoming episodes can also be found on the site. Click on the top menu bar's Museum World link for a listing of museums in states across America. If you have a chance, after finishing your online visit, go see the real thing! Check another Web site — American Association of Museums — for more information and to purchase the DVD of the PBS video and Marjorie Schwarzer's book (Riches, Rivals & Radicals: 100 Years of Museums in America) on which it is based. |
