A multi-year collaborative study will be completed through collaboration of JaKel, Inc. (Jack Gerlovich and Dennis McElroy), Rahul Parsa of Drake University, and Brian Wazlaw of Exeter High School (NH) with the Council of State Science Supervisors (CSSS) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). The project will identify science safety hazards common to the nation and unique to respective states. From this information a Science Safety Indexing System would be synthesized for use by individual schools in assessing hazards and targeting needed corrections. Ideally, attaining certain scores on the Index would better enable science teachers to target solutions and make schools better places to teach and learn science. This might also make them better insurance risks. Funding is being sought from the National Science Foundation as well as from the public and private sector.
