Littleton Colorado….What comes to your mind when you hear that? That beautiful town is forever scarred. It would be very tragic if we didn't try to learn from it. Growing up in Forest City it became very obvious that social status is a big part of growing up. Does it really have to be this way? It's extremely hard to find a place where you can fit in, be yourself, and be truly happy. A few years after I graduated in 1993, I had some heart to hearts with some of my classmates. Many of them, I admired from afar. They seemed to have everything, it was kind of surreal. They seemed larger that life as I struggled to get a date. I often wondered where I had maybe gone wrong. After I spoke with them I learned something incredible...they actually envied me! How could this be? Why? Apparently they felt very empty inside. They said it was like a "cookie-cutter". As long as they fit in the mold they were accepted. Take a look around, what clique or classification to you fit in to? If you had an answer to that question to may want to read on... The problem with the whole classification system is that often you don't totally feel free to be yourself. It seems difficult to bounce from one to the next, and you are often classified before you even have a chance to develop your own personality. Without knowing who you really are it's hard to stand your own and figure out who you are. That's an awful lot to chew on. With that in mind…..how do ya change it? Can you change it? I'm totally serious, do you have to live in fear? You know, the whole do I dare say that...do I dare wear that….what did they say about me….and so on. Is it necessary? What are the concerns in your life? Are you a "cookie-cutter", feeling invisible, or just trying to fit in? The key to breaking the system is learning to feel comfortable with yourself. This is one of the biggest problems. The Bible says the greatest commandment is "Love thy neighbor as yourself". But how many of you either hate yourself let alone like yourself.
