Weather and migrations during the survey period:
This past week was dominated by milder conditions across much of Iowa.  Daytime high temperatures in the north zone held right around the freezing mark while the southern regions of the state benefited with melting conditions.  Snow and ice cover in the fields is still close to 100% north of I80, which limits feeding opportunities for remaining waterfowl.  Fields in the extreme south are opening up, especially south facing slopes, which should be ample for waterfowl which are able to cover large areas in search of lunch.  The only migration continues to be an exodus from Iowa as birds look to the south for an easier meal.
