Tests

The first term test grade will be a playing test. It must be taken before the end of the 1st 6 weeks during lesson time. You will demonstrate your memorization of the marching band music.

 

The second term test grade will also be a playing test. It will take place near the end of marching season/beginning of concert season of the term during lesson time. You will have a two week period in which to take the test. After that you will be seated at the bottom of your section and your test grade will be penalized. The test will consist of the chromatic scale and sight reading. Scores will be based on the following:

This test will determine section leaders and part assignments. Seating for sight reading and attendance will be "vertical." For instance, the top clarinet player will sit 1st chair, 1st part; the 2nd player will sit 1st chair, 2nd part; the 3rd player will sit 1st chair, 3rd part; the 4th player will sit 2nd chair, 1st part; and so on. Seating will rotate for each piece although the stronger players will play first parts more often and each part will be covered by strong players. Players will be listed in descending order in all concert programs.

 

The third term test will be the written semester test based on vocabulary and music from the Winter Concert and other relevant musical information.

 

The fourth term test may be written and/or played depending on the needs of the group.

 

The fifth term test may be written and/or played depending on the needs of the group.

 

The final test will be written, similar to the second term test but inclusive of the whole year. You will be able to opt out of this test by being ON TIME to the 7 am commencement rehearsals AND commencement itself.
