This house was built by C.A.Leffingwell, a prominent farmer in 1902 on the highest hill in Oxford Jct. It is a very well built house. I haven’t seen the inside but from reports it is beautiful. The siding on the house is made of cypress which is a very durable wood and will probable last another 100 years.
In 1918 Frank Shimerda, another prominent farmer purchased the house from C.A.Leffingwell. From Frank it went to his son George Shimerda from George to his daughter Janet. Since her parents death she has only stayed in the house for a short time yearly to look after her land holdings.
Tim and Dena’s family of three children, out grew their trailer home and were looking to build. Hearing the Shimerda house was for sale they contacted Janet . Dena fell in love with the house. The pictures tell the rest of story of its move to the present site over looking the Wapsie river. (We will attempt to up date as progress is made)
Dena said move that house. Even the HGTV crew came to watch Dena move her house. Steph said a tree can’t stop this project. This house was built in 1902 on the highest hill in town. It is leaving for a scenic place near the Wapsie. Making the turn off the cement road at Hale. It does stop the traffic.
