Kilbrandon & Kilchattan Parish, Argyll, Scotland
Censuses for 1851, 1861 and 1871
I hope that you find my census transcripts of use for your
research. If you have specific questions, I have all of my original
photo copies of each page except 1851. Feel free to gather pertinent
information you need for your family but duly note my information is
copyright material. These files are large, in table format, so
they will take some time to load on most computers. Go make a cup
of tea to help refrain yourself from pounding keys while you wait.
A special friend, Douglas Brown,
graciously shared with me his 1851 census index and allowed me to add
to these web pages. I have the 1881 Census CD for all of Scotland
produced by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Days Saints http://www.familysearch.org should you need lookups from that source. You will find the 1891 and 1901 Census returns available on-line for a fee - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
You can locate the 1841 census return for this Parish now on-line,
website noted below. Eventually, the Free Census for
Scotland project will have more records available. As these
returns become available there, I will remove mine. In the
interim I hope my project will motivate others to share their personal
holdings and transcribe additional records. http://freecen.rootsweb.com/
If by chance you find any possible connection to any of my
specific families in this area drop me a note. Some of them
are:
Gillies, Graham, Johnston, McCallum, McCorquodale, McDougall, McInnes,
McIntyre, McQueen, McPherson, Sinclair, and a host of other area names
for which I am still searching. Unfortunately, most of these
names were very common in the area. Although I feel there is a strong
connection between many families of this Parish, I have not acquired
records to prove those relationships. Ahh, the thrill of the
chase!
On to the census
