Confirmation Age

Question:

Dear Father,

I have attended Catholic school through the third grade. I then moved to Ohio to attend their school system. I go to Public Service Religion classes and am way ahead of the other students. I am now in the eighth grade and want to be confirmed. I think I am ready, but I don't think my pastor will let me because of my age. I am thirteen years old and very eager. What should I do?

Answer:

In the Archdiocese of Duqubue, a person has to be 15 at the time of confirmation. I am not sure what your diocese has, since each can set the age for confirmation. If your diocese requires an age older than you are, there is nothing you can do, but keep up the faith, and wait until then to be confirmed. Sorry.

God Bless,

Fr. Ray
