€ Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you...
	Jeremiah 1:5

The passage from Jeremiah referring to "the womb" is used today because it is the feast of Mary's parents. This Scripture also reveals a message about our own birth: each of us, in our mother's womb, was in a secret, growing space where the Holy One knew us and grew us. Jeremiah tells us that this intimate bonding with God began even before we entered the womb. Our whole life is held in the heart of God, the place where we are always cherished and nurtured.

I was reminded of this enduring love of God recently when a young mother in our parish was pregnant with her second child. The family sits in the front pew so it was easy to be aware of how the baby was growing. Each week this mother's belly grew larger until she could hardly sit or stand comfortably. When the newborn baby was brought to church, many of us drew near to view the miracle of life that had been forming before our very eyes. As I looked at the dell-Cate, beautiful child, I thought of the absolute wonder of God's love and the amazing gift of birth.

Pause to think about this miracle of life as you go through your day today.
