You Have Been Told

€ You have been told, 0 man, what is good,
and what the Lord requires of you:
Only to do the right and to love goodness,
and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8

This is simple living at its simplest. Perhaps we do spend too much time with life's complications, with questions that seem to have no solutions. Maybe we would do better by focusing on what we already know and trying to do it.

We know gossip is wrong and hurtful, for example, so we can simply stop. We know envy is a waste of energy, so we can simply love the goodness other people enjoy. We know that without God's grace we would be lost, so we can simply be grateful.

The prophet Micah urges us to cut through any perfectionism or patterns of denial that might keep us from simply responding to the knowledge we already have about God's will. Through simple acts of justice, love and humility, we will draw steadily closer to God through the ordinary events of daily life.

God of all goodness, help me to act on what I already know is your will, today and every day.
