The Wonders Of The Lord

Monday, July 10 Generation after generation praises your works and proclaims your might. Psalm 145:4

A year ago today, our family made our annual pilgrimage to the Chicago museums. Our destination this time was a sea horse exhibit at the Shedd Aquarium. Sea horses were old hat to a veteran aquarium-goer like me. I'd even seen them in the wild one summer when I'd worked on Cape Cod. But nothing prepared me for the lemon-and-white striped leafy sea dragon from South Australia: body configured like a dragon in flight, winglike fins resembling translucent oak leaf lettuce. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I'd be convinced it was a special effect created by Industrial Light and Magic.

I wasn't the only one blown away by the sea dragon. "I can't believe I had to come all the way to Chicago to see this!" exclaimed a voice behind me. The accent was unmistakable. "I'm from South Australia," he explained, unnecessarily, when I turned around and smiled. We brought home a postcard, to remind ourselves not to miss the wonders of the Lord in our own backyard.

Jesus, I recall in gratitude the good deeds you inspired me to do. Help me to continue to grow.
