Paramedic
Intercept Alarm Response Policy
1.
When
responding to a priority I patient, have dispatch determine destination
hospital or the patient's physician, if possible.
2.
As
soon as the patient’s condition has been assessed and a paramedic intercept is
needed, notify dispatch to contact EG paramedics by via alpha pager.
2.
At
the time of departure from scene if a EG paramedic has not made contact, notify
the appropriate paramedic service response is requested. Again, this can be
done via direct radio communications or through dispatch.
3.
If
patient's condition warrants possible air transport from Community Memorial
Hospital, you can notify dispatch to put a helicopter in the air to Community Memorial
Hospital. The helicopter can be disregarded (10-22) by the receiving physician
and there is no charge to the service, hospital, or patient. Use your judgment
carefully, abuse of this will result in discipline action.
Do not be apprehensive to
use the above policy. It has been established for your protection as well as the
benefit of the patient. Also, this is in no way a statement that we are not
competent care givers, just that we can not go beyond our level of care and the
patient's best interests are to be the foremost thought.
