Radio Operation Procedure

The use of the radio in the ambulance is essential for the operations of this Department. Every member should have a working knowledge of the radios in both ambulances, should there be a difference in their operations. The radios are used for communications between the ambulances and the hospitals, the communications center, and law enforcement agencies.

The following communication procedure will be used when responding to a call:

2.     When the staff shows up and is ready to respond to the call, advise communications center you are responding to the call.

3.     When you arrive at the destination, advise the communications center that you are on scene

and that EG medical command has been established.

destination (i.e. Hamilton County Public Hospital, Trinity Regional Hospital, etc.).

5.          While en route to a hospital, a detailed patient report will be given to the receiving facility on the

        correct frequency.

7.     After you have completed your transfer, contact communications center and advise them, your are completed  and en route back to Eagle Grove.

8.     When you arrive at the base, contact communications center and advise you are back at the station and they will fax the times of the call to EG EMS office.

9.        Communication between the ambulance and the communications center is the responsibility of the driver and communications between the ambulance and hospital is the responsibility of the attendant. The driver will assume that duty only if asked by the attendants with the patient (example: full code).

10.     Communication between ambulance personnel during a call. The personnel will use their medic number when addressing each other on the radios.
