Discipline Policy

 

Disciplinary action taken against members of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Service will fall into the following categories:

 

            1.      First Offense                                -Documented Verbal Warning

            2       Second Offense                            -Written Warning Placed in the Individual's File.

            3.      Third Offense                               -Suspension (The length of which is to be determined by

                                    The Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical

                                                                         Service Administration.)                     

            4.    Fourth offense                                -Termination

The above listed order will be followed, however, depending on the seriousness of the offense, Steps #1, 2, and 3 may be bypassed and termination procedures implemented.

 

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES

Any volunteer or group of such volunteers who feel that they have been unfairly treated in keeping with the polices of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Service and have a grievance as a result there of should first discuss said grievance with their immediate supervisor. If the grievance is not settled to said volunteer's satisfaction through said discus­sion, the following procedures shall be followed:

 

Step 1:         The volunteer or volunteers shall, within three (3) working days of the date of the discussion with their immediate supervisor, present the grievance in writing to their Department Officers. The Department shall reply to the grievance in writing within three (3) working days of the receipt thereof, informing the volunteer or volunteers of the decision in connection therewith.

 

Step 2:        In the event that said volunteer or volunteers are not satisfied by the decision of the Department Officers, they may, within three (3) working days, present their grievance in writing to the City Administrator. The City Administrator shall, within five (5) working days of receipt of said grievance in writing, arrange to meet with the grievant or grievant, the Department Officers and additional witnesses as either party may call them. The City Administrator shall hold an informal hearing and follow the same, shall issue a written decision within five (5) working days thereof.

 

Step 3:        In the event that the decision of the City Administrator is not satisfactory to the grievant or grievant, they may within five (5) additional working days, present the grievance in writing to the City Council. The City Council shall review the grievance In Executive Session held with twenty (20) working days of receipt of the written grievance, with the parties to the grievance, their witnesses and such other parties as the Council may desire. Following said Executive Session; issue its decisions pertaining to the grievance, which shall be final and binding.
