Department Officers

 

1.   Officers of the Department shall be voted on by the membership. Interested members should make their intentions to run for office known at the November meeting. All interested members will be submitted on a ballot for voting purposes. No member will be forced to hold an office. At the December meeting, the members of the department will vote on the members on the ballot. However, a member that informs the Chief fourteen days before the general election and states in writing that he/she will not be attending the meeting. The member at that time may vote by absentee Ballot.

2.   The Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Service's Officers will consist of the

Following:

A.   Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services-Captain

B.   Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services-Assistant Captain

C.   Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services-Sec./Treas., Lieutenant

D.   Emergency Medical Technician-Sergeant

E.    Emergency Medical Technician-Corporal

4.   All terms of office shall be for 1 (one) year from the date the date of installation in said office, however, in the event a succor is not elected prior to the expiration of the office term, the officer then \holding office shall continue until the successor has been elected and installed. All Officers may be re-elected to that Office. No Officer shall be in term no longer than 3 (three) consecutive terms.

5.       Elections shall take place at the December Business Meeting.

6.       In the event that an Officer is unable to complete his/her term. The Officer will state in writing that the individual can not complete the term. The next business meeting following the letter, candidates for the officer position shall be selected by nominations from the floor at the time of election.

7.       Each Officer will have a job description and will be responsible for their role in the operations of the Department. Each job description is as follows:

 

Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services-Captain:

A.   Plan and Coordinate the operations of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services with the Chief of the Department and the City of Eagle Grove.

B.     Assists with the supervision of the overall operations of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services. Maintains a level of training of all Department members such that Eagle Grove is an accredited service within the guidelines set forth by the State of Iowa. Make any appointments and nominations necessary to make the De­partment run efficiently. Conducts all business in the absence of the Chief. Other duties as assigned.

C.     The Chief will be your immediate supervisor. In his/her absence, you will answer directly to the City Administrator.

D. Must knows how to handle and manage people. Must be capable of dealing with the Chief, City Administrator, Hospital Administrators, Physicians, and Nurses in the absence of the Chief. Should have good public relations skills and be capable of working within the public eye. Must have a thorough knowledge, understanding of the Department, and be able to deal with the problems encountered.

E.  The Captain should be an active member of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services with a minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience on the Department.

 

Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services

-Assistant Captain:

 

A.     Plan and coordinate the operations of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services with the Captain and the Chief of the Department and the City of Eagle Grove.

B.     Assumes the following duties as directed by the Chief: Supervises the overall opera­tion of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services. Assists in maintain­ing a level of training of all Department members such that Eagle Grove is an accredited service within the guidelines set by the State of Iowa. Assumes the duties of the Captain in his/her absence. Other duties as assigned.

C.     The Department's Captain is your immediate supervisor. In his/her absence, you will answer directly to the Chief of Emergency Medical Services.

D.     Must knows how to handle and manage people. He/she must be capable of dealing with the Captain, Chief, City Administrator, City Council, Hospital Administrators, Physicians, and Nurses. Should be a good public relations person and be capable of working with the public. He/she must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Department and be able to deal with the problems encountered.

E.     The Assistant Captain should be an active member of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services with a minimum of 2 (two) years’ experience on the Department.

Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services-Lieutenant (Sec/Treas.):

 

A.     Coordinate and compile records of bank account and minutes of all meetings.

B.     Takes minutes of all monthly Department meetings, submitting a typed copy of minutes within one (1) week of the meeting to the Chief. Records minutes at any other Depart­mental meeting including Committee meeting. Maintains a balanced and accurate record of the bank account, with a monthly statement reviewed at each monthly meeting. A treasurers report notebook shall be kept and updated with each additional bank statement, as well as assets, liabilities, and a fund balance. Likewise, a current Secretary's notebook shall be kept, with all monthly meetings, roll calls, and agendas. Other duties as assigned.

 

C.     The Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Service's Captain and Chief will be your immediate Supervisor.

D.     Must be familiar with secretarial duties, and be able to efficiently take minutes, type, and have some bookkeeping knowledge.

E.      The Lieutenant/Secretary - Treasurer shall be an active member of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Services with a minimum of 2 (two)-year experience on the Department.

The other two (2) Officers, Emergency Medical Technician - Sergeant, and Emergency Medical Technician a Corporal will serve as needed, to head committees, schedule train­ing for members, and assist all other officers as directed.

8.      These officers will make up the Officers of this Department and will be your representatives, along with the Department Chief.

9.      Throughout these Standard Operating Procedures, you find portions of your job descrip­tions. Those listed, as well as the others as assigned, will be your responsibility.

10.  As an officer of the Eagle Grove Department of Emergency Medical Services, you will be an example for the rest of the Department. Do not take this obligation lightly.
