Department Membership

 

I.   Qualifications: The member shall have achieved and maintained the minimum level of training as required by the State of Iowa and the Department of Emergency Medical Services for the City of Eagle Grove.

A. Patient Attendant:

I.                    Current Certification as Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.

II.                 Current Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

III.               Valid State of Iowa drivers license.

IV.              Subject to approval by Service Membership.

 

2.   The member shall live or work within the city limits of Eagle Grove, or within close proximity to the ambulance base to assure quick response time when paged. Others outside this area will be considered on an individual basis by the EMS Chief and Officers of the Department.

 

3.  The members shall maintain an appropriate dress code as representatives of the Department.

A. Clothing clean and in good repair.

B. Shorts, slacks, jeans, pants, or coveralls.

C. Shirts, blouses, jackets, or E.M.S. clothing.

D. Dresses and skirts.

E.  Shoes.

F.  Sweat or jogging suits.

 

4.  The member shall be free of physical, mental, and/or emotional complications, which would effect their performance. A physician's permission slip shall serve as notices of fitness to serve as a member of the Department in the event complications occur.

 

5.  Members shall maintain an overall professional appearance and attitude.

6.      Leave of absences will be determined on an individual basis by the EMS Chief and Officers of the Department. Leaves may be granted for a three- (3) month period.

7.      Written resignations must be received by the Department Chief to be acted on by the Department.

 

8.         Dismissal from the Department shall result from negligence in one (1) or more of the following areas:

A.    The Eagle Grove Depart. of E.M.S. Standard Operating Procedures.

B.    The E.M.T.'s Code of Ethics.

C.    The Eagle Grove Depart. of E.M.S. Protocols.

 

9.         The Disciplinary Standard Operating Procedure shall state the dismissal policy.

 

10.       Department Officers will evaluate all new prospective members. The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to enroll into an EMT-Basic course.

 

11.        Prospective members shall serve a probation period, which shall include a six- (6) month period, during which time their performance will be evaluated. The probationary period will end with affirmative vote by the general membership of the EGEMS.
