Magdalene Lechman
OSAGE 

Magdalene Lechman, 86, of Manly, formerly of Osage, died Monday
(Nov. 18, 1996)  at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in
Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew and
the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Sacred
Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 2:30 p.m. Thursday with a 3 p.m.
rosary and a 7:30 p.m. scripture service at Champion Funeral
Home.

Magdalene was born July 26, 1910, in Rothmal, Russia, of German
descent. Her parents were John and Rose (Lauer) Kloberdanz.

She entered the United States with her family at Ellis Island
in 1911.

The family moved to the Osage area in 1922.

She attended Osage schools.

Magdalene was employed for many years at both the Hanford Hotel
and Park Clinic in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Sandra Hawkins
and her husband, Monte, of Manly; one son, Dennis Lechman and
his wife, Judy, of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, Kristie Wilkins
and her husband, Ron, of Nora Springs, Karrie Lipp and her husband,
Bryan, of Mason City, Angela Sorenson and her husband, Jamie,
of Hanlontown, Tina Hawkins of Manly, Daniel (D.J.) Hawkins of
Storm Lake and Brian Lechman of Salem, Ore.; great-grandchildren,
Brandon Wilkins and Kaitlyn Sorenson; three brothers, Peter Kloberdanz
of Osage, John Kloberdanz of Osage and Alex Kloberdanz of Charles
City; and two sisters, Catherine Arickx of Osage and Leona Niddrie
of Ocala, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, two
brothers and two sisters.


MCGG 11/20/1996 Edward N. Schmitt ROCKWELL Edward N. Schmitt, 75, of 20411 140th St., died Sunday (Nov. 17, 1996) at his home. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen Meyer. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Fullerton Funeral Home of Rockwell is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall. Edward was born near Marble Rock on Feb. 20, 1921, to Matt Sr. and Catherine (Merfeld) Schmitt. He attended school through the eighth grade at Roseville. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving one tour of duty during World War II. On Feb. 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Pauline Quade in Roseville. Edward's life revolved around his family and farming. He particularly enjoyed raising registered Hereford cattle and going to farm auctions. He spent his spare time reading. He was a member of American Legion Post 208. Edward is survived by his five daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Janice) Brighton of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mrs. Rod (Trish) Bean of Johnston, Mrs. Al (Marlene) Paulus of Chillicothe, Mo., Dianne Schmitt of Joilet, Ill., and Kathleen Schmitt of Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Gary (Jeannette) Schmitt of Rockwell, Mike Schmitt of Rockwell, Jim Schmitt of Omaha, Neb., and Leroy (Beth) Schmitt of Rockwell; one sister, Mrs. Phil (Steela) Fuller of Florida; one brother, Bernard (Lillian) Schmitt of Charles City; two sisters- in-law, Lorraine Schmitt of Sumner and Lillian Schmitt of Mason City; two brothers-in-law, Nick Brunner of Marble Rock and Keith Harrison of Riceville; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline on June 22, 1996; one sister, Catherine, in infancy; one sister, Christina; three brothers, Matt Jr., Raymond and Mark; and one grandson, Andrew Bean.
MCGG 11/20/1996 Mae M. Lugg OSAGE Mae M. Lugg, 78, died Sunday (Nov. 17, 1996) at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage. Mae was born March 8, 1918, to Henry and Lillie (Bagstad) Olswold at Lyle, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lyle Lutheran Church by the Rev. Langhough. Mae attended the Minnereka school at Lyle. On April 20, 1940, Mae was united in marriage to Arthur Lugg by the Rev. T.P. Solem in Osage. Arthur died Feb. 3, 1983. Mae was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Survivors include one daughter, Marvis Kleckner and her husband, Richard, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; two sons, Keith Lugg and his wife, Mary, of Casper, Wyo., and Glenn Lugg and his wife, RuthAnne, of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence Olswold and his wife, Clarice, of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Arthur, in 1983.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave., Muscatine, with the Rev. Hal Pearson of the Walnut Park Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Phil Yocum, Terry Peterson, Roy Brown, Leroy Land, Charles Shook and Harold Cross; and honorary pallbearer, Don Rinehart. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. David Roy Wells was born June 16, 1941, at Floyd, the son of John V. and Ruth R. (Shorey) Wells. He was united in marriage to Betty Arlene Brewer on Nov. 17, 1962, in Mason City, and they renewed their vows at the Church of the Nazarene on Nov. 20, 1987, in Muscatine. David liked to keep himself busy and he was a ``Jack of All Trades.'' He was employed at Bandag of Muscatine for 28 years as a banbury operator. He took great pride and enjoyment in working on cars. Survivors include his wife, Arlene, at home; one son, Steven Roy Wells; two daughters, Jodi Lynn Fulfs and Patsy Doreen Land; five grandchildren, Sarah Wells, Brittney Land, Levi Land, Natasha Elam and Ashley Elam; his mother, Ruth Wells of Mason City; four brothers, Robert John Wells and his wife, Beth, of Mason City, Johnnie Michael Wells and his wife, Beverly, of Mason City, Richard Allen Wells and his wife, Dorothy ``Dottie,'' of Nashua and Roger Dean Wells and his wife, Betty, of Northwood; and one sister, Dorothy Kay Grossmann and her husband, Michael, of Davenport. She is survived by her husband, A.C. ``Chet'' Andersen; a daughter, Loretta Waters of Plymouth; three sons, Michael of Apple Valley, Minn., Mark of Skiatook, Okla., and Eric of Lime Springs; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Arline Miller, both of Nashua.

Miller GREENE Memorial services for LeRoy Henry Miller, 67, of 35 Katta Drive, Cherokee Village, Ark., formerly of Greene, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, with the Rev. Randall V. Baldwin officiating. There will be a flag presentation ceremony conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. LeRoy Henry Miller was born Feb. 9, 1929, in rural Bristow, Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of Herman and Minnie (Kielman) Miller, and died Monday (Nov. 18, 1996) at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark., of a heart attack. He received his education in the rural Butler County schools and as a young man helped farm at home. On March 5, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army, where he served with Co. B., 112th Infantry. He was united in marriage to Elaine Schafer on Nov. 10, 1951, at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Following his discharge on March 3, 1953, LeRoy and Elaine farmed in the Greene area until 1986, when they moved to Arkansas. LeRoy was baptized April 28, 1929, and confirmed a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Dec. 2, 1945. His interests included collecting postcards, farming memorabilia and antiques. Living family members include his loving wife of 45 years, Elaine, of Cherokee Village, Ark.; one son, Mark Miller and his wife, Jan, of Mason City; one daughter, Teresa Frericks and her husband, Brian, of Bristow; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Pine Grove, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Rock Falls, died Monday (Nov. 18, 1996) at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Nils ``Chris'' Hellevik of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home and until time of services on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the Konrad A. Schabacker Memorial Fund. Konrad A. Schabacker was born Sept. 17, 1964, the son of Konrad and Beverly (Anderson) Schabacker in Mason City, Iowa. Konrad attended and graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School in 1983. Konrad also worked for HyVee East for 3-4 years during high school. He then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1987. He worked in Des Moines for one year, in Atlanta for seven years as a systems analyst and recently moved to Chicago the first part of this year, working as a computer consultant. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Nora Springs-Rock Falls Band and the All-State Band and Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Iowa State. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Schabacker of Rock Falls; and his father, Konrad J. Schabacker of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Schabacker in 1987; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
MCGG 11/20/1996 Eugene L. Mummelthie SUISUN CITY, Calif. Eugene L. Mummelthie, 51, died Monday (Nov. 18, 1996) in Suisun City, Calif. At his request, there will be no funeral service. The body was cremated. Bryan-Braker funeral home, Suisun City, is in charge of arrangements. Eugene was born May 27, 1945, in Fredericka. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, in 1959. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1963. Eugene retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service and was employed by United Air Lines in San Francisco at the time of his death. Survivors include his mother, Esther Mummelthie of Rockford; his wife, Pauline Mummelthie of Suisun City; one daughter, Christine Mummelthie of Suisun City; one son, Eugene Mummelthie II of Suisun City; one grandson; three sisters, Donna Wendt of Sumner, Bert Ann Ray of Navada and Betty Graham of Madrid; and three brothers, Duane Mummelthie of Mason City, Bob Mummelthie of Mesa, Ariz., and Don Mummelthie of Waverly. MCGG 11/20/1996 Robert Dean Bonner CLEAR LAKE Robert Dean Bonner, 57, of 625 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 16, 1996) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Interment will be in the Ventura Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the Robert Dean Bonner memorial fund. Robert was born June 8, 1959, in Swaledale, Iowa, the son of John Gene and Amanda Flo (Odom) Bonner. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957. Robert was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, in 1959. Robert married Deanna Kaster on Nov. 11, 1962 at the E.U.B. Church in Ventura. He started working for David Manufacturing Co. in Mason City, in maintenance, in 1966. While he worked at DMC, he was active in the local and district machinist union (I.A.M.) and was local and district union secretary and later president of local and district unions. He helped organize the union at Andrew's Prestress Concrete. Robert helped develop the safety program at DMC. In 1972, he became involved as a Webolos leader for the Boy Scouts of America and later a scout leader. Robert was honored by his fellow scouts and was elected to the Order of The Arrow, established by the National Brotherhood of Scout Honor Campers, Sac-N-Fox Lodge. He did maintenance work and skate sharpening at the North Iowa Ice Arena, where he enjoyed being around kids and helping them. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to northern Minnesota, working on cars and most of all dancing. Together with his wife, he was a caretaker of the Ventura Cemetery. He was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura. Robert is survived by his wife, Deanna Bonner of Clear Lake; his mother, Amanda (Flo) Bonner of Clear Lake; six children, Robert Eugene Bonner of Hayfield, Iowa; Anthony Joseph Bonner and his wife, Dawn, of Rockford; Chad Allen Bonner of Clear Lake; Angela Ranae` Meyering and her husband, Phil, Ventura; James Bonner and his wife, Melissa, Ardmore, Okla.; and Barbara Wells and her husband, Steve, Madill, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Arnold and her husband, Jerry, of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Dean Meyering, Jacob Wayne Bonner, Jeremy Bonner, Jarred Bonner, Jesse Wells, Levi Wells, Elizabeth Wells, John Wells, Amanda Wells and Amy Wells; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Robert was preceded in death by his father; granddaughter, Harley Joy Bonner; and grandparents, John and Belva Bonner and Charles and Rozella Odom.

There will be no services or visitation. The body will be cremated. Cremains will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Evelyn was born July 19, 1908, in Fredricksburg, the daughter of Dr. Howard D. and Blanche (Tompkins) Fallows. Evelyn married Willis O. Patton on June 9, 1934, in Winona, Minn. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Strickler and her husband, Jim, of Oskaloosa; one grandson, Michael Strickler and his wife, Peggy, of Rochester, N.Y.; and one brother, Ronald F. Fallows of North Carolina.

Memorial services for Mr. Fish will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 507 S. Carolina Ave., Mason City. C.E. Prevatt Funeral Home, Temple Terrace, Fla., is in charge of arrangements. Gerald B. Fish was born in Marquette, Iowa, and moved to Florida 15 years ago from Mason City. He was retired after 31 years of service from Northwestern Cement Plant, where he was a mill operator. Gerald was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Mason City, and is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Tampa, Fla. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Ila; his sons, Jack Fish and his wife, Portia, of New Hartford; Delbert Fish and his wife, Paula, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Gary Fish and his wife, Kathy, of Mason City; daughter, Donna Eckard and her husband, Bill, of Riverview, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert was honored by his fellow scouts and was elected in the Order of The Arrow, established by the National Brotherhood of Scout Honor Campers, Sac-N-Fox Lodge. He did maintenance work and skate sharpening at the North Iowa Ice Arena, where he enjoyed being around kids and helping them. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to northern Minnesota, working on cars and most of all, dancing. Together with his wife, he was a caretaker of the Ventura Cemetery. He was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura. Robert is survived by his wife, Deanna Bonner, of Clear Lake; his mother, Amanda (Flo) Bonner, of Clear Lake; six children, Robert Eugene Bonner, of Hayfield, Anthony Joseph Bonner, and his wife, Dawn, of Rockford, Chad Allen Bonner, Clear Lake, Angela Ranae` Meyering and her husband, Phil, Ventura, James Bonner and his wife, Melissa, Ardmore, Okla., and Barbara Wells and her husband, Steve, Madill, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Arnold and her husband, Jerry, of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Dean Meyering, Jacob Wayne Bonner, Jeremy Bonner, Jerrid Bonner, Jesse Wells, Levi Wells, Elizabeth Wells, John Wells, Amanda Wells and Amy Wells; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Jack attended rural schools in Cerro Gordo County and graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. He began farming in Lime Creek Township. With the exception of time spent in the army, he continued farming until his retirement. Although retired, he continued to live on the farm. Spencer Lynn Ollenburg, the son of Herbert Luther and Ruth Magdalen (Boehnke) Ollenburg was born July 22, 1936, at Mason City. After graduating from Garner High School in 1954, he attended college at Iowa State University, Ames. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1956, he began working at Hancock County National Bank where he served as president from 1977-90. He completed a course of instruction from the Graduate School of Banking, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis. On April 14, 1963, he married Dorothea Ruth Steege at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. They made their home and raised their family in Garner. Spencer enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and playing cribbage! He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served as chairman of the congregation, deacon, treasurer, on the church council, sang in the choir and belonged to Bible study class. He was a former member and past-president of the Garner Lion's Club. He had belonged to the American Banker's Association, the Iowa Banker's Association, the Adult & Children With Learning Disabilities and the Garner Chamber of Commerce. He had been treasurer of the Garner-Hayfield Community Schools, served as Concord Township Clerk for many years, served on the board of directors of Duncan Heights and was a current director of Hancock County Bank & Trust since April 4, 1969. He is survived by three children, Herbert Andrew Ollenburg and his wife, Linda, and their daughter, Katie, all of Rochester, Minn., Amy Ruth Hansen and her husband, Michael, and their two children, Benjamin and Carly, all of Aberdeen, S.D., and Susanne Lynn Johnson and her husband, Mark, and their son, Zachary, all of Lee's Summit, Mo.; his mother, Ruth M. Ollenburg, of Garner; and a sister, Sylvia Ann Swale, and her husband, Dr. Ralph Swale, of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert L. Ollenburg, Nov. 26, 1987.

Her family meant a lot to her, and she loved her grandchildren, and will be sadly missed by all. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. She is survived by one son, Rolland Miles and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; grandchildren, Tami Moore and her husband, Josh, of Annapolis, Md., and Michael Miles of Omaha, Neb. She was united in marriage to LaVern Wilde of St. Ansgar, in Northwood on March 27, 1940. They farmed many years in the St. Ansgar and Osage area retiring in 1975. They were living in Osage. Mrs. Wilde was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Rock Township near Osage. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary of Osage and the Christian Women's Club. She enjoyed reading and gardening and loved being with her family and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Swanson of Cedar Falls, and Ruth Fredericks, Osage; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one brother; one sister; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Meservey. Opal Mildred Olson, the daughter of Gerhard and Anna (Fosen) Olson, was born Sept. 21, 1912, on a farm south of Kanawha. She was baptized in the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She attended the rural schools of Hancock County and then graduated from Corwith High School in 1929. Opal worked in a restaurant in Kanawha, at Morell's Packing Plant in Ottumwa, and then for Younkers in Mason City, Austin, Minn., Iowa City and Waterloo. She retired in 1975, and in 1977, moved to Britt to be near family and friends. In 1991, due to ill health, she moved to Agency, later to Bloomfield, and in May of 1996 to the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. She enjoyed her nieces, nephews, Norwegian cooking and playing cards. She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Olson of Britt, Glenice Olson of Waterloo, and Yvonne Olson of Ottumwa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Aletha Gault; four brothers, Lynn Olson, Clair Olson, Maurice Olson and Jay Olson; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Olson; and a brother-in-law, Weston Gault.

She was united in marriage to John J. Pals on March 29, 1934, at the Immanuel Reformed parsonage in Belmond. They farmed together in the Belmond, Thornton and Goodell areas until 1952 and moved to an acreage south of Meservey. In 1960, they moved into the town of Meservey. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Meservey. Mrs. Gabel, the former Josephine Ann Kramer, was born Nov. 26, 1905, in Ulster Township, Floyd County, the daughter of John and Mary (Puhl) Kramer. She was educated at St. Mary School in Roseville. On Feb. 22, 1933, at St. Mary's Church in Greene, she was united in marriage to Wilbur John Gabel. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Greene for many years, where Mrs. Gabel assisted her husband in the operation of the farm. Mr. Gabel died Sept. 27, 1995, in Mason City. Mrs. Gabel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. She enjoyed a special knack for gardening and cooking. Living family members include one sister, Christina Heinz of Charles City, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Matt Kramer, John Kramer and Raymond Kramer, and three sisters, Katie Staudt, Margaret Staudt and Barbara Staudt.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating, and Joseph Wellik as Lector. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan. Arthur, the son of William and Lillian Kopacek Chizek, was born on June 10, 1934, in Britt. He attended schools in Britt and graduated from Britt High School. On Jan. 16, 1956, he was united in marriage with Lorraine Young in Garner. He worked for Woodford-Wheeler Lumber Yard for more than 40 years. Since 1960, he had been the manager at Woodford-Wheeler. Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and carpentry repair. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he served as a trustee and as an usher. He also belonged to the Holy Name Society, the Catholic Workman and the Britt Chamber of Commerce. Arthur is survived by his wife, Lorraine Chizek, of Britt; his children, Kenneth and his wife, Cynthia, of Clear Lake, Carolyn Chizek and her fiance, Steve Kilborn, of Clear Lake, Judy Brozik and her husband, Jim, of Duncan, Gary and his wife, Sheryl, of Britt, Mary Chizek of Mason City, Ray Chizek of Ankeny, and Lori Chizek and her fiance, Brent Mullins, of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Michael Chizek, Melissa, Stacy and Amy Brozik, and Allan Chizek; his mother, Lillian Chizek of Britt; one brother, William Chizek and his wife, Blanche, of Britt; two sisters, Lorene Arndorfer and her husband, Francis, of Willmar, Minn., and Marie Wieck and her husband, Gary, of Las Vegas, Nev. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, where a scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Nancy Seny was born Dec. 9, 1904, in Italy, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gallati) Malfero. She came to the United States at the age of three. Nancy Seny was united in marriage to Tony Seny on March 15, 1920, in Mason City. She resided in Mason City until 1974. She was a past member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and was an active member of her women's church circle. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Pusateri of Anaheim, Calif., and Mary Seny of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one son, Patrick A. Seny of Daytona Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Seny, on Feb. 3, 1958.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Lakewood Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Friday afternoon (Nov. 22, 1996) at her home in Albert Lea following a courageous battle with cancer. Maxine was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Garner, the daughter of William A. and Minnie R. (Jante) Hoeft. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. Maxine graduated from Garner High School in 1948. She was employed by the Telephone Company in Mason City, Tacoma, Wash., Garner and Albert Lea. In 1960 she graduated from cosmetology school in Austin, Minn., and was a beautician at the Skinner Department Store, and self-employed in her home in Albert Lea for 32 years. She retired in 1993. Maxine was united in marriage to Vincent O. Johnson on Feb. 2, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was an active member of the American Legion, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary. Maxine is survived by her husband, Vincent, of Albert Lea, Minn.; children, Marjorie J. and her husband, Byron Nelson, of Little Falls, Minn., William E. and his wife, Nancy Beers, of Albert Lea, Minn., Edward J. and his wife, Margie Beers, of Blaine, Minn., Chris A. and his wife, Janet Johnson, of Robbinsdale, Minn.; grandchildren, Michael, Rainya and her husband, Daniel Strack, Emily, Benjamin, Maxwell, Janika, Kelli, Ryan, Adam and Jenna; sister, Marcele and her husband, Walter Schlicting, of Clear Lake; step-children, Janice and her husband, Corlyn Paulson, of Lakeville, Minn., Janet and her husband, Odean Jerdee, of Albert Mills, Wyo.; 12 step-grandchildren; and 13 great-step-grandchildren.
