MASON CITY
Marian A. Davis, 87, of 707 Elm St. E., Rockwell, died Saturday
(April 27, 1996) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson of the
First United Methodist Church, Mason City, officiating.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a family and friends
memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Rockwell Community Nursing Home in
memory of Marian A. Davis.
Marian was born Aug. 24, 1908, in Freeborn County, Minn., to
George E. and Mae M. (Barker) Jones.
She graduated from Freeborn High School and Mankato State with
a teaching degree. She taught four years.
She was married to Donald R. Davis in Minneapolis on Dec. 29,
1928. He preceded her in death in 1948.
She worked for Stoddard Manufacturing Company for a time and
was a nurses aide at the Park Hospital. Marian worked at the
Mason City Public Library for eight years, and at the Clear Lake
Public Library for a time. For 16 years, she worked in the Medical
Library at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a
past member of the Iowa Library Association. She lived in Indianola
for six years.
Survivors include son, Donald Robert Davis and wife, Nita, of
Texarkana, Ark.; daughter, Betty A. Smith and husband, Richard,
of Indianola; son, Richard D. Davis and wife, Edna, of Sun Valley,
Nev.; son, Leslie D. Davis and his wife, Barbara, of Worley,
Idaho; daughter, Carol E. Wallace and husband, Larry, of Indianola;
daughter, Sharon M. Sharp, of Indianola, and daughter, Lois A.
Brown and husband, Dallas, of Rockwell; son-in-law, Robert S.
Brood of Swaledale; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Berniece Barron
of Mason City, Ruth Conway of Mason City, and Doris Davis of
Fort Scott, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1948; one
sister; three brothers; daughter, Marilyn J. Brood in 1991; four
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Theron I. Lessor, 88, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Mason
City, died Friday (April 26, 1996) at Hillhaven Rehabilitation
Center, Fort Myers, Fla.
A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. James E. Hayes officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with full military
honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural prayer service
beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Pilgrim Moose service beginning
at 7:30 p.m.
Theron Isadore Lessor was born May 20, 1907, in Ingram, Wis.
He was the oldest son of Isadore Lessor and Eulalie (Lollie)
Porior Lessor.
He married Luella F. Burkholder on Nov. 2, 1940.
After serving in the United States Army during World War II,
he moved to Mason City and worked for Henkel Construction Company
for 40 years as yard foreman and equipment superintendent.
He lived in Mason City until early 1994 when illness required
that he move to Florida to be near one of his daughters.
Theron was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights
of Columbus. He was also a member of the VFW.
Theron was an active member of the Mason City Moose Lodge #1328.
He was appointed secretary to the Mason City Moose Lodge in October
of 1969. Later he was appointed deputy grand north Moose for
Iowa during the 87th International Moose Convention.
In addition he served as herder of the Cedar Valley Legion
and governor on the degree staff for four years. He also served
as governor and trustee of the Mason City Lodge.
He has held offices of president, third district vice president,
trustee, membership chairman and Iowa Building Fund chairman
in the Iowa State Association of Moose. He was a Legionnaire
of the Moose, in 150 division of the 25 club and held the fellowship
and Pilgrim of Merit degrees.
Survivors include his wife, Luella Lessor of Fort Myers, Fla.;
three daughters, Joan Marie Lessor of Des Moines; Karen Ann Bell
of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mary Ellen Embry, Alexandria, Va.; four
grandchildren, Daryl Snow of Dallas, Texas; Tammy Jackey of northern
Minnesota; Robert Stack of Fort Myers, Fla., and Regina Mishkel,
Alexandria, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Jones
of northern Minnesota; Marissa Marie Stack of Fort Myers, Fla.,
and Marcus Anthony Mishkel, Alexandria, Va.; eight sisters, Genevie
Sibby of Phoenix, Ariz.; Eleanor Fix, Minneapolis, Minn.; Lucille
Gagnon, Racine, Wis.; Francis Trinkle of Minneapolis, Minn.;
Pearl Dressell of Ladysmith, Wis.; Marie Biller of Ladysmith,
Wis., Virginia Giles, of northern Minnesota and Margaret Smith
of Park Falls, Wis.; one brother, John Lessor of Racine, Wis.;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert William
Lessor, in 1969; one brother, Archie Lessor; and two sisters,
Dorothy Grass and Lillian Robinson.

Doris Coon, 75, of Forest City, died Monday (April 29, 1996)
at home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Soderstrum-Riis

Methodist Church, Forest City, officiating. Burial will be in
the Sheldahl Cemetery, near Slater.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen
Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, and from 10:30 a.m. until time
of service on Friday at the funeral home in Slater.
Doris Coon was born March 18, 1921, in Lincoln Township, Winnebago
County.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Coon of Forest City; one
daughter, Carol Lynn Coon of West Des Moines; one son, Robert
Coon Jr., of Glastonbury, England; four grandchildren; one sister,
Gertha Elwood of Pamona, Calif.; and one brother, Merle Patterson
of Gertna, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three
brothers.

Nathan James Bond, 79, of Belmond, died Tuesday (April 30,
1996) at home.

Nathan James Bond was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Ida Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Belmond; one daughter,

Colo.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don L. Hanson, 58, of Garner, died Monday (April 29, 1996) at
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery with graveside military
rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

at 8 p.m.
Donald Lester Hanson, the son of Freeman L. and Dorothy J. (Davis)
Hanson, was born Nov. 28, 1937, at Clarion. He attended school
at Clarion and then served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard
an aircraft carrier in the Pacific fleet. He returned to Clarion
where he worked at the Clarion elevator. On July 22, 1972, he
was married to Roxanne R. Rogers at Fort Dodge. The couple made
their home in Clarion and later moved to Meservey in 1976 where
Don was employed by the Klemme elevator. In 1977 they moved
to Garner where he began working for Standard Fertilizer and
later with G & G Ag Services. Don enjoyed fishing, boating,
golfing, football and lawn work.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Hanson of Garner; three
children, Tanya Hanson of West Union, Don Hanson Jr. of Garner,
and Theresa Tedrow and her husband, Ben, of Garner; two grandchildren,
Tory Hanson and Samanatha Jo Tedrow; one brother, Jerry Hanson
and his wife, Karla, of Des Moines; two sisters, Irene Hoyt and
her husband, Owen, of Mesa, Ariz., and Betty Westrum of Albert
Lea, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin infant brothers.

Caryl Marion Groth, 86, of Northwood, formerly of Postville,
died Tuesday (April 30, 1996) at her daughter's home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Conner Colonial
Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, with the Rev. Mark Bents of
First Lutheran Church, Northwood, officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday at
the funeral chapel.
The family of Caryl Marion Groth has requested that memorial
contributions to be made to the American Diabetes Association,
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville or to First Lutheran
Church, in Northwood, in her memory.
Funeral services will also be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Postville, with the Rev. Mark Bents of the
First Lutheran Church, Northwood, officiating. Burial will be
in the Postville Cemetery.

Fuenral Home, 214 E. Tilden St., Postville, and one hour prior
to service time on Saturday at the church.
Caryl Marion (Bulman) Groth was born on Dec. 27, 1909, the daughter
of Frank T. and Millie (Johnson) Bulman in Waukon.
She attended and received her education in the Waukon School
System, graduating from Waukon High School in 1926.
After completing her formal education, she taught school in
rural Allamakee and Winneshiek counties prior to her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Harold L. Groth on May 24, 1933,
in Frankville. She preceded her in death in 1979.
After retiring from farming and related endeavors, she and Harold
moved to Postville in 1975.
She was active in church and 4-H activities and was a charter
member of the West Post Project Club. She was also a member of
the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville until moving to Northwood
with her daughter and son-in-law in 1991, where she joined the
First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and knitting, but
her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elaine Meyer and
her husband, John, of Northwood; Ernest Groth and his wife, Juanita,
of Thermal, Calif.; and Janet Shelton and her husband, Bill,
of Englewood, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
a sister, Leora (Bulman) Hall and her husband, Douglas, of Oklahoma
City, Okla.; as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Harold, who died in 1979; she was also
preceded in death by her brother, Donald, who died in 1995.

John Halbert Threlkeld, 81, passed away Tuesday (April 30,
1996) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

John, the son of Robert and Agnes Criger Threlkeld, was born
on Feb. 8, 1915, at Chariton.
He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, and
attended Coe College where he was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon
fraternity.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Stritesky at Cedar Rapids
in 1939.
John was employed with the Wilson Packing Company in Cedar Rapids,
Knaus Trucking in Cedar Rapids, Dragoun Transfer & Storage in
Ames, Knaus Trucking in Davenport, Eagle Grove, and Kansas City,
and later with U.S. Chemical in Kansas City and Britt.
In 1949, the family moved to Britt. In 1959, they established
the Britt Tech Corporation in Britt and 24 foreign countries.
In 1961, he was granted a U.S. patent for high pressure washers,
and in 1971 began manufacturing high pressure washers for John
Deere private label account.
In 1975, they celebrated the production of their 100,000th
high pressure washer.
John was chairman of the board for the 70-employee company when
he was named Iowa's small business person during Small Business
Week in 1981.
In 1989, the business was sold to Fountain Industries Company
of Albert Lea, Minn.
John served as a Boy Scout leader, an original board member
on the Britt Country Club, served on BIDCO and was a member of
the Rotary Club.
John's hobbies included woodworking, (making furniture, cupboards,
a boat which the family named, ``DARN OL'' and an organ), playing
the organ, photography, boating and golfing. He was an avid reader,
and enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii.
John is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Threlkeld; his son,
Dennis and his wife, Carolyn, and their children, Sue Threlkeld
and Becky Threlkeld; his daughter, Carol M. Thompson and her
husband, James and their children, Christie Carlo and her husband,
Timothy, Stephanie Thompson, Doug Thompson and Rob Thompson;
two brothers, Don Threlkeld of Forest City, and Jim Threlkeld
of Punta Gorda, Fla; and one sister, Peg Todd of Williamsburg,
Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one
sister.

and one-half miles south of Dows on County Road R-75 in a one-car
accident.

Burial will be in Otis Grove Cemetery, rural Dows.

Erik Hanson was born May 23, 1972, in Dubuque.
Survivors include his parents, Neilan and Trish Hanson of Dows;

Raymond H. Isaacson
CHARLES CITY
Raymond H. Isaacson, 83, 2689 Plumbrook Drive, Bloomfield Hills,
Mich., and formerly of 613 First Ave., Charles City, died Sunday
(April 28, 1996) at the residence of his son with whom he made
his home, Dr. Ronald Isaacson, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. John Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets, Charles City, with
the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag officiating.
Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and will be held
from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401
Blunt St., and one hour prior to services at the church.
Additional funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at
the Rock-Randall Funeral Home in Braham, Minn., with visitation
from noon until service time on Friday.
Burial will be in the Rice Lake Cemetery, Braham, Minn.
Raymond Herman Isaacson was born March 19, 1913, in Stanchfield,
Minn., the son of Herman and Hilma (Anderson) Isaacson.
He attended grade school in Stanchfield, Minn., and graduated
from Braham High School in 1930.
On March 18, 1936, at the Braham Lutheran Church, he married
Opal Margaret Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Isaacson moved to Charles City in 1950, where they
started Ray's Pastime, a recreation parlor and then Ray's Family
Kitchen in 1957.
Following the tornado in 1968, the two businesses were combined
into one inside the former Gilbert Stone Block Building. They
continued with the pizza business, selling frozen pizzas statewide
until they built a pizza factory, making Ray's Frozen Pizzas,
which were sold and delivered to neighboring states. They sold
the factory in 1975.
After the stone building where their restaurant was located
was registered on the National Register of Historical Places,
they took on the monumental task of restoring it. On April 23,
1980, they unveiled the Union House. They operated it until a
tragic fire gutted the building in 1987, after which they retired.
Mrs. Isaacson preceded Raymond in death on Nov. 13, 1992, in
Rochester, Minn.
Mr. Isaacson was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was confirmed in 1928 at the Braham Lutheran Church.
He was a member of St. Charles Masonic Lodge #141 AF & AM,
Mason City York Rite Bodies, the El Kahir Shrine Temple in Cedar
Rapids, and the BPO Elks #418 of Charles City.
Living family members include a son and his wife, Dr. Ron and
Mary Jo Isaacson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; a daughter, Donna
Rae Amann of Golden Valley, Minn.; two brothers, Carl Isaacson
of Braham, Minn., and Dr. Lloyd Isaacson of Lewisburg, Tenn.;
six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister and
two brothers.

Kerry E. Johnson, 42, of Springfield, formerly of Mason City,
Iowa, died Sunday (April 28, 1996) at his home after a long battle
with cancer.
Memorial services will be held Saturday in Springfield.
Klingner Mortuary, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements.
Kerry was born June 3, 1953, in Mason City, Iowa, to Edward
and Rose Lee Johnson.
He married Jeannie Hood of Springfield on March 26, 1977.
Kerry attended Holy Family Catholic School and was a 1971 graduate
of Newman High School and a 1977 graduate of Southwest Missouri
State University in Springfield.
He worked at Iowa Kemper Insurance and was presently employed
by Continental Western Insurance of Des Moines, Iowa, for the
past 15 years.
Kerry is survived by his wife, Jeannie; one daughter, Kasie,
and two sons, Cody and Kyle, all at home; his parents, Edward
and Rose Lee ``Dolly'' Johnson of Mason City, Iowa; two brothers,
Kevin Johnson and family of Kansas City, Mo., and Kurt Johnson
of Waterloo, Iowa; and one sister, Kim Johnson, of Mason City,
Iowa.

Arthur S. Hope, 80, of Fallon, Nev., died Thursday (Jan. 18,
1996) in a hospital in Sparks, Nev.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Petersen
Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Snitzer
of Pilot Knob Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in
Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake, Iowa.

Arthur Sigvald Hope was born in Story City, Iowa, on June 5,
1915, the oldest son of Oscar and Ingeborg Hope.
He attended rural schools and was engaged in farming and construction
work. He was a veteran of World War II.
On Oct. 21, 1952, he was married to Inez Trappman at Lourdsburg,
N.M. The couple lived at Chandler, Ariz., for many years.
Later they moved to a farm near Powell, Mo. For a short time,
they lived near Thompson, Iowa. and finally, they moved to Fallon,
Nev.
Arthur died at a hospital in Sparks, Nev., on Jan. 18, 1996,
at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife, Inez, of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepdaughters;
two stepsons; and several stepgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Wilbur
(Gladys) Olson of Forest City, Iowa; three brothers, Obed of
Chicago, Ill.; George of Boone, Iowa; and Stanley of Scarville,
Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara and Judith; three
brothers, George, Clarence and Edward; and a stepson.

Caryl Marion Groth, 86, of Northwood, formerly of Postville,
died Tuesday (April 30, 1996) at her daughter's home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Conner Colonial
Chapel, 99-11th Street S., Northwood, with the Rev. Mark Bents
of First Lutheran Church, Northwood, officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday at
the chapel.
The family of Caryl Marion Groth has requested that memorial
contributions to be made to the American Diabetes Association,
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville or to First Lutheran
Church, in Northwood, in her memory.

Lutheran Church in Postville, with the Rev. Mark Bents of the

Caryl Marion (Bulman) Groth was born on Dec. 27, 1909, the daughter
of Frank T. and Millie (Johnson) Bulman in Waukon, Iowa.
She attended and received her education in the Waukon School
System graduating from Waukon High School in 1926.
After completing her formal education, she taught school in
rural Allamakee and Winneshiek counties prior to her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Harold L. Groth on May 24, 1933,
in Frankville, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1979.
After retiring from farming and related endeavors, she and Harold
moved to Postville in 1975.
She was active in church and 4-H activities and was a charter
member of the West Post Project Club. She was also a member of
the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville until moving to Northwood
with her daughter and son-in-law in 1991, where she joined the
First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and knitting, but
her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elaine Meyer and
her husband, John, of Northwood; Ernest Groth and his wife, Juanita
of Thermal, Calif.; and Janet Shelton and her husband, Bill,
of Englewood, Colo; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
a sister, Leora (Bulman) Hall and her husband, Douglas, of Oklahoma
City, Okla.; as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Harold who died in 1979; she was also preceded
in death by her brother, Donald, who died in 1995.

Gertha Elwood of Pamona, Calif.; and one brother, Merle Patterson

Loren Gast, 79, of Garner, died Thursday (May 2, 1996) at Concord
Care Center in Garner.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist
Church in Klemme with the Rev. Jerry Robertson as officiant.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Klemme Veterans
Ceremonial Unit. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery
in Garner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo
Funeral Chapel in Garner.
Loren Clifford Gast, the son of Herman and Meta (Bredlow) Gast,
was born Feb. 27, 1917, on a farm near Garner. He received his
education at Liberty Township District #8 school, the same school
his father had attended. After graduating from Klemme High School
in 1935, he attended Morningside College in Sioux City. He was
united in marriage with Ruth L. Ridder on Jan. 1, 1943, the first
wedding held in the Liberty Methodist Church west of Klemme.
Loren's basic training for the U.S. Army Air Force was at Jefferson
Barracks in St. Louis, Mo. After attending the service school
of the 75th CTD at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., he was
an Altitude Technician in the 35th Altitude Training Unit at
San Antonio, Texas, in the Aviation Cadet Center. He was also
stationed at the air base in Rapid City, S.D. After his discharge
in 1946, he began farming the Gast home farm in Liberty Township.
It became a Century Farm in 1984. He was also an agent for
FMI and IMT insurance companies. His father, Herman Gast, and
grandfather, William Bredlow, were also agents for the same companies.
After retiring from farming and moving into Garner in 1979,
he enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He was an active member of the Liberty Methodist Church and
the Klemme United Methodist Church. He was also a member of
the Klemme American Legion Post.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ruth Gast of Garner;
a daughter, Kathryn Hefti and her husband, Hal, of Baxter, Minn.;
two sons, Doran Gast and his wife, Marilyn, of Stillwater, N.Y.,
and Eldon Gast and his wife, Clara, of rural Garner; five grandchildren,
twins Clifford and Curtis Gast, Jed and William Gast, and Janessa
Hefti; a sister, Lola Fredin of Swaledale; a sister-in-law, Helen
Gast of Garner; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Gibbs of Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth
Gast; and two sisters, Mildred Zwald and Lois Gibbs.

Marcie M. Crandall, 74, of Hampton, died Tuesday (April 30,
1996) at her home.

Marcie was born July 19, 1921, in Iowa Falls, moving to Hampton
in 1940. She resided at 108 Fifth St. S.W. On Aug. 9, 1941,
she was united in marriage to Leroy Crandall in Alexandria, La.
She joined First Christian Church on Feb. 1, 1976.
Marcie was a homemaker, but prior to that she worked as a restaurant
manager and had taken an interior decorating course. She belonged
to the American Legion Auxiliary, A.M.I. Group, Compeer Program
and served on the board of C.A.P. She also served the church
in various ways, including most recently as the chairman of membership,
CWF Card chairman, and was a member of the ``Classy Christian
Clowns.'' She served as chairman of evangelism and membership
from 1982 until the present year.
Her interests and hobbies included decorating, gardening, visiting
children, baking, her dog Fritz, visiting nursing homes and entertaining.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Don (Jill) Schweiger
of Osage, Mrs. Tom (Janie) Georgou of Coralville, and Mrs. Curt
(Joy) Andrews of Union; two brothers, Frank Bynum of Marshall,
Mich., and Claude Bynum of Livonia, Mich.; six grandchildren,
Lisa Hommez, Ryan Bonjour, Jason, Jeremiah and Joshua Andrews
and Lynnette Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Carrissa and
Clay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four sisters.

Ethel Marie (Melrose) Lambert

Ethel Marie (Melrose) Lambert, 92, died Wednesday (May 1, 1996)
at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United
Methodist Church in Manchester.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Shelly
Funeral Home, Manchester.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Manchester,
or to a favorite charity.
Ethel was born June 15, 1903, in rural Buchanan County near
Jesup, the daughter of Thomas C. and Mary Cyrena (Price) Melrose.
She graduated from Jesup High School in 1920, and later earned
a B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
Ethel married Joseph P. Lambert in Eldora, on Aug. 22, 1925.
They farmed near Jesup for a year before moving to Fairbank,
where both taught school.
In 1934, they moved to Monona, and from there to Marquette in
1937. They returned to Monona in 1940, where she taught school
through the 1949-1950 school year.
In 1950 she moved to Manchester to join her husband, who had
gone there as superintendent of schools the previous year.
She taught school in Earlville from 1952-1958, and in Manchester
from 1958-1964.
From 1964-1968, she devoted four years to living with her son,
Joe, and his four children in Anamosa, taking care of the youngsters,
whose mother was killed in an automobile accident in June of
1964.
In 1968, Ethel returned to Manchester to live and remained there
through 1992, at which time she went to rural Decorah to live
with her grandson, Joe, and his family for approximately one
and three-fourths years.
In May of 1994, Ethel broke a hip in a fall, and following a
recuperation period from that injury, moved to Oakwood Manor
Care Center in Clear Lake, where she lived until the time of
her death.
Throughout her life, Ethel had a strong interest in music, particularly
vocal music. As a younger women, throughout approximately 1950,
she sang in church choirs, and performed as a soloist and as
a member of small vocal groups at weddings, funerals, and other
community activities.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided the highlights
of her later life, along with contacts generated by long standing
friendships, some of which had endured for 70 years and longer.
Ethel was a former member of Eastern Star and P.E.O. She was
a member of the United Methodist Church of Manchester.
She is survived by one son, Joe, and his wife, Wanda, of Clear
Lake; grandson, Tom, and his wife, Tina, and their children,
Emily and Tommy of Solon, Ohio; grandson, David, and his wife,
Shelley, of Wilmington, N.C.; grandson, Joe and his wife, Gracie,
and their children, Joe, Abe, Sam and Ben of Decorah; granddaughter,
Nancy Caylor, her husband, Duane, and their children, Heather,
Heidi and Hannah, of Indianola; and stepgranddaughter, Cyndy
Stapes, her husband, Harley, and their daughters, Nichole and
Michelle, of Tiffin; four nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary Cyrena
and Thomas C. Melrose; husband, Joe; two half brothers, Glen
and Ross; four brothers, Maurice, George, John and Robert; and
one great-grandson, Elijah.

Julia Irene Mace, 86, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Thursday

Julia Mace was born April 28, 1910, in Moulton, the daughter
of Keith V. and Nellie J. (Montgomery) Mace.
As a teen, Julia and her family moved to Mason City. She graduated
from Mason City High School and the University of Iowa.
Julia did graduate work at the University of Colorado, the Cedar
Falls Teachers College and the University of Iowa.
Julia taught school in Hampton from 1939-1954 and in the Mason
City School system from 1954-1974. She retired in 1974.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Alpha
Xi Delta Sorority, Retired Teachers Association, life member
of the Iowa State Education Association, American Association
of University Women and a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Chapter
LB.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Lucille Mace of Fort Dodge;
niece, Judith Wood of Santa Barbara, Calif.; niece, Marilyn Drechsler
of Milwaukee, Wis.; nephew, Stuart R. Mace of New York, N.Y.;
nephew, John P. Mace of Indianola; and nephew, Richard D. Mace

for over 80 years, moving to Sioux Falls recently.
While Orpha lived in Mason City, she was very active with the
First Baptist church and circles.
She loved doing ceramics, her flower garden, and sewing clothing
for her family.
Orpha is survived by her four daughters, Mrs. Russell (Tressa)
Ziegahn, of East Stroudsburg, Pa; Mrs. Glenn (Marvel) Fisher,
of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Robert (Zella Mae) Sandin, of Lake Forest,
Ill.; and Mrs. Rachel Ann Plucker, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was the oldest of the family and was preceded in death by
one infant daughter, Lois Jane McFarlin; and four sisters, Alta
Mick, Iva Williams, Annabelle Kingery, Gladyce Jackson; and two
brothers, Armon Haagen and Lawrence Haagen.

Bessie M. Wogstad was born on Feb. 25, 1901, in Sweden, the
daughter of Isaac and Mary (Webster) Anderson.
She attended and received her education in the Creston and Decatur,
Iowa, school system.
She came to the United States from Sweden with her parents as
an infant and lived with her parents on a farm near Creston until
the age of 10 years, when they moved to a farm near Decatur,
and was there until the age of 14, when they moved to Deer Creek
Township in Worth County, rural Northwood.
She was united in married to Carl J. Wogstad on Feb. 18, 1920,
in Bloomford, Minn., by the Rev. S.G. Carlson. He preceded her
in death on Jan. 1, 1967.
After their marriage, together they farmed in Deer Creek Township,
in Worth County, rural Northwood.
Two years after her husband's death, she moved to Mason City
in 1969, moving to Hanlontown in 1981, and had been a resident
of the Manly Care Center since 1990.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers, gardening, watching her
shows on TV, embroidering, reading and visiting and entertaining
her family and friends, but her great love and enjoyment was
her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, and the
church circle in rural Glenwood, Minn.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jeanine Wogstad of Mason
City; seven grandchildren, Clinton R. Wogstad of Park Rapids,
Minn.; Robert R. Wogstad and his wife, Kathy, of Waverly; Susan
M. Blacksmith and her husband, Charlie, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Janet
R. Taylor and her husband, Norman, of Hanlontown; Sandra R. Scholbrock
and her husband, Richard, of Hanlontown, and Roger and Rodney
Wogstad of Minnesota; several great-grandchildren; and several
great-great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband who died on Jan. 1, 1967, she was also preceded
in death by her two sons, Carlton Wogstad, who died on Feb. 20,
1981; and Clayton Wogstad, who died on Nov. 5, 1986; her parents;
one brother, Arthur Anderson; and one sister, Hilma Jyrkas.
