Mrs. Eddy died Wednesday (March 20, 1996) at Pelican, La. Lemerle and her husband, Glenn B. Eddy, were former residents of Swaledale. Lucido, 61, of Phoenix, and formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Tuesday (April 9, 1996) in Fayetteville, N.C., of heart failure. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in Phoenix at a later date. Joe was born in St. Louis, Mo., on July 18, 1934. He served in the United States Air Force. He earned his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and his M.S.W. degree from the University of Iowa. While living in Mason City, he was a social worker for Mason City schools and the executive director of the Migrant Action Program for Iowa and Nebraska. He served on numerous Mason City boards and committees including the Mason City Park Board. He was an active proponent of civil rights, an avid golfer and a talented artist. Survivors include his wife, Carmella Lucido of Phoenix; sons, Clif Lucido, Rochester, Minn.; Scott Lucido of West Jordan, Utah; daughters, Starla Blackburn of American Fork, Utah, and Lori Henry of Mason City, Iowa; and Fara Lucido, of North Salt Lake City, Utah; his former wife, Dr. Bonnie Lucido, of Highland, Utah; a sister, Frances Lucido; a brother, John Lucido; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Volding, 90, a former resident of Mason City, and Sarasota, Fla., died Saturday (April 6, 1996) at the Capital Region Medical Center, Southwest, Jefferson City, Mo. Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 1996, in the Freeman Chapel, 915 Madison St., Jefferson City, Mo., with the Rev. Stanley Duncan officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to The Lake Ozark Christian Church, Lake Ozark, Mo. Mr. Volding was born Oct. 9, 1905, at Crystal Lake, the son of Theodore and Ella Gopel Volding, both deceased. He was married on May 28, 1927, to Dorothy Hanson at Clinton, who preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 1982. Mr. Volding attended Crystal Lake High School, Crystal Lake, and Mankato Business College, Mankato, Minn. He was employed as a mailman in Mason City, for 35 years prior to his retirement in December of 1963. In 1983, Mr. Volding moved to Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Volding was a member of the Mason City Masonic Lodge; a member of the Wesley Methodist Church, Mason City; and a member of the Brothers Club in Sarasota, Fla. Survivors include one son, Jerry Volding of Four Seasons, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Margot Volding of Four Seasons, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. David Olson of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery. Estelle Ann Barnett was born on April 25, 1910, one mile south of Manly, the daughter of farmer Soloman Watson Stratton and school teacher Emma Caroline Penney. Mrs. Barnett graduated from Mason City High School in 1927. She spent one year in Chicago, Ill., studying clothing design and other studies at the Lewis Institute of Illinois, Institute of Technology. As a farm wife, she was well known as a hostess, to visitors and to guests, both and from throughout the country. She was highly regarded for her beautiful and outstanding sewing ability, done for both family and friends as well as her own wardrobe. Mrs. Barnett was a source of comfort to a number of teen-agers and young adults, who often sought her advice, counsel and understanding. She was also known for her ready smile and consistent words of cheer to all. She was united in marriage to Teauthus ``T'' Barnett on Sept. 6, 1935, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The late T. Barnett and Estelle Barnett farmed three miles east of Manly, for over 30 years, before moving to town in Manly. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Ray, of Chicago, Ill.; a grandson, Leslie Ray, of Iowa City, formerly of Manly; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Cecil (Flossie) Douglas of Manly; a nephew, Leon Barnett, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a niece, Mrs. Pearl Reevers, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; cousins, Mae Wilson Tate and Cleota Cabell Caldwell; four great-nieces; and several other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Teauthus ``T'' Barnett who died on Oct. 19, 1994.

Jefferson Ave., died Tuesday (April 9, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East following a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., with Tom Gosser of the Fifth Street Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and will contine one hour prior to services on Friday. Vernon was born on Dec. 11, 1919, at Garner, the son of Rikus and Sara (Van Hueson) Park. He graduated from the Ventura High School. He served his country in the United States Army as a quartermaster joining in 1942 at Mason City and was honorably discharged from Camp Young in California. He then spent all of his life farming near Rockwell. He was united in marriage to Bernice Lorraine Carrot on Oct. 12, 1968, in Rockwell. He retired in November of 1975 when they moved to Mason City. He was a member of the Clausen Warden Post of the American Legion and a social member of the Gallagher Post in Rockwell and the AmVets. He also formerly served on the town council in Rockwell, and was a member of the Mason City Moose Lodge. He spent many hours fishing in the area and was always willing to play cards. Vernon is survived by his wife, Lorraine Park of the Hampton Care Center; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Sallie) Ubben of Chapin; one son, Richard Hansen and his wife, Judy, of Valjo, Calif.; two brothers and their wives, Donald Park of Mission, Texas, and Roy Park of Rockwell; six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lettie Rosenau.

Burnett, 78, of 522 First St. N.E., died Tuesday (April 9, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Charles Q. Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. There is no visitation, as her wish was cremation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave,. is in charge of arrangements. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory. Harriet was born in Laurens, on April 6, 1918, to Sigurd and Andrea (Nelsen) Carlsen. She graduated from Laurens High School in 1935 and attended Northern Iowa University. She taught school in several North Iowa schools before coming to Mason City in 1946. She received a B.A. degree from Northern Iowa University in 1962. She married Michael Burnett in 1950. She and her husband taught school and managed their own apartments for many years. Mr. Burnett died in 1964. Harriet retired from teaching in 1976. She loved the outdoors and spent hours raising flowers and landscaping her home. She traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, North America and the Islands. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, We Serve God Circle. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Christian Women, Retired School Personnel and A.A.R.P. Survivors include one son, Fred Burnett and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mason City; two sisters, Mildred Carlsen of Mason City, and Dorothy Burkhart and her husband, Bill, of Deerfield, Ill.; and nephews and nieces in Iowa, California, Texas, Kansas and Connecticut.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Herbert G. Shafer of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with graveside honors conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Wilson ``Lee'' Hedrick was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Stahl, Mo., a son of James and Letha (Jump) Hedrick. He moved with his family to Mason City when he was a small child. He worked at the Decker Meat Packing Company prior to his enlistment. On July 9, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army at Camp Dodge, Des Moines. He served in the Asiatic Theater during World War II as a radio operator. He was discharged on Jan. 31, 1946, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. He returned to Mason City, and on March 14, 1946, in Manly, he married Freda V. Wilkerson. He had worked in a Mason City quarry and on a farm for Robert Fischer of Rockford. For 21 years, he was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Bob McKinness Excavating Company. He was a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign War Post in Mason City. During his working years he was a member of the Teamster's Union l 828 of Mason City. Living family members include his wife, Freda, of Mason City; five children, Lester Hedrick and Linda (Mrs. Melvin) Sexton, both of Mason City, Dianna (Mrs. Russell) Ehrhardt and Sherry (Mrs. Mark) Martie, both of Manly, and Kim Stueve and companion Buff Ubben of Ackley; two brothers, Elmer ``Buck'' Hedrick of Nora Springs and Paul Hedrick and his wife, Shirley, of Clarinda; two sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Dick) Rasmussen and Dorothy (Mrs. Don) Bailey, both of Mason City; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny Hedrick; his parents; two brothers, Harold and Don Hedrick; three sisters, Cleatur Cheney, Betty White and Bonnie Williams; and two grandsons, Tommy and Timmy Ehrhardt.

Graveside services to honor the life of William August ``Bill'' Von Laven will be held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. Bill died Feb. 28, 1996, in Missoula at the age of 87. Bill was born May 6, 1908, in Chicago to John Claus and Anna Marie Von Laven. Bill was the oldest of eight children. He spent his early years in Chicago and then in Woden. In 1929, he married Lola Pedelty, and they had one son, William Lee. Bill spent most of his adult years in Mason City, Spencer and Owatonna, Minn. He worked as a sales representative for Champlin Oil Company and later Federated Insurance Company, serving each company over 20 years. In his leisure time Bill enjoyed golf, bridge and occasional fishing trips. After his retirement, Bill frequently traveled to visit friends and relatives scattered throughout the United States. Bill moved to the Missoula, Mont,. area in 1992, accepting an invitation to join the household of his grandson, John Von Laven. John, his wife, Linda, and their two young daughters, Ericka and Nicole, greatly enriched the final years of Bill's life. Bill was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by many. Survivors include grandchildren, Scott and Grettel Von Laven of Madison, Ala., Julie and Jim Canan of Portland, Ore., John and Linda Von Laven of Florence, Mont., and Lisa Von Laven of Billings, Mont.; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jody, and her husband, Willard Tieszen; sister, Viola McCarthy; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Herbert Williams; brother-in-law, Roger Pedelty; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, son, parents, brother, John, and sisters Dororthy, Lena, Kathleen and Ann.

Herbert G. Pederson was born in Mason City on May 26, 1935, to Selmer and Edna (Nelson) Pederson. On Nov. 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marlys Pederson. He lived in Ankeny for 33 years where he was a business education teacher for Ankeny High School, retiring in 1993. He had lived in Des Moines for one year. Survivors include his wife, Marlys Pederson of Des Moines; one son, Gary Pederson of Bondurant; three daughters, Holly Pederson and Shelly Hunter, both of Denver, Colo., and Ranae Willer of Fort Collins, Colo.; his mother, Edna Pederson of Fertile; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Duane Pederson and Roger Pederson.

Mary Catherine Jarosh was born on Nov. 24, 1909, in Mason City, a daughter of Charles J. and Mary Ann (Shima) Jarosh. She attended school at St. Joseph's Catholic in Mason City. On Sept. 12, 1933, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, she was united in marriage to William V. Buck. The couple lived in Mason City until 1946 when the family moved to Riceville, where they farmed until 1973. Mary enjoyed her family, fishing, growing African violets and feeding the birds and squirrels. She was a member of St. Anne's Rosary Society. She is survived by one son, William C. Buck Jr. of Osage; one daughter, Rosemary Veech and her husband, David, of Mason City; one grandson, David E. Veech and his wife, Gidget; one granddaughter, Michele Kay Olson and her husband, Troy; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua David and Hunter Mychael Veech of Manly and Clayton Duane Olson of Peterson.

Viola graduated from Forest City High School in 1936 and then went on to attend Waldorf College. Viola graduated from the Minneapolis School of Cosmetology in 1938. Viola married T. Reuben Moen on Sept. 18, 1942 in Crystal Lake, Iowa. Viola and Reuben moved to Mason City in 1945. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1946, where she taught Sunday School. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, and the Eastern Star. She is survived by three daughters, Karen Krieger and her husband, Herb, of Mason City, Linda Muth and her husband, Fred, of Clear Lake, Starr Lang and her husband, Clifford ``C.J.'', of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Holly Krieger of Chicago, Ill., Todd and Vicki Krieger of Mason City, Tim and Sarah Krieger of Victoria, Minn., Cale Lang of Clear Lake, Shane Muth of Storm Lake,and Shad Muth of Clear Lake; three great-grandsons, Jed, Clint and Max Krieger of Mason City; two brothers, Virgil Benson and his wife, Emily, of Crystal Lake, and Jay Benson of Forest City; one sister, Opal Seeberger and her husband, Bob, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Reuben in 1992.

Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, where military honors will be conducted by members of H.D.S. American Legion Post, #449, Nora Springs. Visitation will b held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to services at the church, Monday. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, in memory of Tuffy. Loren Roy Sheckler was born June 17, 1918 at Prairie du Chien, Wis., a son of Fred Roy and Mae (Harding) Sheckler. He moved to Nora Springs at the age of 11 where his father operated the Sheckler Funeral Home. He married Trudy Michels on July 11, 1946 at Clarion, Iowa. He was a 1935 graduate of Nora Springs High School, a graduate of Mason City Junior College and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1942. He served in the United States Air Corps Marine Division, during World War II. Along with his brother, Howard, he operated the Sheckler Brothers Funeral Home, until 1970, when it became known as Sheckler Funeral Home. He also operated Sheckler Interiors, Nora Springs. Following his retirement in 1982, Tuffy and his wife, Trudy moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Supporter. He was member of United Methodist Church, Nora Springs; National Funeral Diectors Association; Iowa Funeral Directors Association; H.D.S. American Legion Post #449, Nora Springs; and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Trudy Sheckler, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Vicki Sheckler and Mrs. Donavan (Janey) Dahl, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Russell Sheckler; and one sister, Norma Tatum. Visitation was held Saturday at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix, Ariz.

Her body was cremated and memorial services and inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements. Maxine was born Dec. 28, 1904 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Curtis Augustus and Edith (Allan) Abbott. She graduated from Penn Academy High School in Oskaloosa and went on to earn an A.A. Degree from the Ward Belmont Girls School in Nashville, Tenn. On June 17, 1926, she married Charles S. Ramsay in Oskaloosa. The couple moved to Texas, where he worked for Shell Petroleum. They later settled in Mason City. She and her husband owned and operated Standard Auto Parts in Mason City beginning in 1950. After the death of her husband in 1962, she continued to work with her son-in-law, James, until selling the business in November of 1987. Maxine enjoyed playing Bridge, collecting antiques, traveling, and most of all, her family. She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Billee Gadient and her husband, Jim, of Ventura, Iowa; a brother, Lyman Augusta Abbott, and his wife, Joan of Bloomington, Ind.; two grandchildren, Amanda Redenius and her husband, Blair of Algona, Iowa; and Liz Ristau and her husband, David, of Luverne, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandra Redenius and Charlie and Dianna Ristau. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant brother, Worth Abbott.

Memorials may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Roy Alfred Hurst was born Dec. 1, 1905, on the family farm in rural Charles City, the son of Melville and Eliza K. (Cook) Hurst. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. On March 6, 1932, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, he married Elsie G. Hopkes. Mr. Hurst was a longtime area farmer, and had always farmed within three miles of the family farm purchased by his grandfather in 1869. Three generations of his family attended the same St. Charles No. One Country School Roy, his mother, and his daughters. He also served as director of this school. He retired and moved to town in 1966, residing at 800 Eighth St. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Floyd County Farm Bureau, the Charles City Senior Citizen's Center, and the FCNB Heritage Club. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1011 of Charles City. He also belonged to the Stone School Community Club. Living family members include his wife, Elsie of Charles City; two daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Bruce Pennington of Rudd, and Darlene and James Dommel of Golden Valley, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Esther Hurst of Charles City; five grandchildren, Julie Westendorf of Johnston, Cindy Snell of Ames, Diann Honadel of Green Bay, Wis., Christine Dommel of Minnetonka, Minn., and David Dommel of Eau Claire, Wis.; five great-grandchildren, Laura, Patrick, and Nathan Snell, and Elizabeth and Sarah Westendorf; three nieces and nephews, Maxine VanMersbergen of Oskaloosa, Merna Hoeft and Merlin Obermeier, both of Charles City. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Ernest Hurst; three sisters, Lillian Obermeier, Leaetta Drake, and a sister in infancy; a granddaughter, Debra Pennington; a great-granddaughter, Andrea Snell; a nephew, Lavern Obermeier; and a niece, Leona Lore.

Mrs. Heetland was born Aug. 1, 1902 at Radcliff, to Conrad and Edith (Balvanz) Gabel. She grew up in the Ledyard area and was educated in the Ledyard Public Schools. She married George Heetland of Lakota on Nov. 29, 1923 after a four-year courtship. Eleanor was the bookkeeper in her husband's Farm Produce store in Lakota for 12 years. They were the parents of four children, a daughter, Arlis; twin daughters, Fanchon and Faustine; and a son, Rodney. In 1948, the family moved to Clear Lake where Mrs. Heetland resided until 1994 when she went to live with her daughter, Faustine, in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Mrs. Heetland became a member of Clear Lake Congregational Church in 1951 and was active in the church choir, served on the Board of Deacons, Music Committee, and Women's Fellowship for many years. She was also past president of Lakota Presbyterian Women, past president of Kossuth County American Legion Auxiliary, Civic League of Clear Lake, member of T.T.T., Clear Lake, and a Girl Scout leader. Surviving are twin daughters, Franchon Wilson of Mason City, and Faustine Nelson of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Don Akre of Jefferson City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1978; daughter Arlis Akre in 1980; son Rodney in 1987; two grandsons, Jeff Mott and Rodney Wilson; her parents; two sisters, Elfrieda and Edith; and six brothers, Charles, Martin, August, Herman, Theodore, and Roland.

Charles Hilton Douglas was born May 30, 1908 at Fort Stewart, Ontario, Canada, a son of James and Jessie (McPherson) Douglas. He married Agnes T. Haugo on March 24, 1933 at Detroit, Mich. He attended school at Fort Stewart, Ontario, Canada. As a young man Hilton managed his father's general store in Fort Stewart, Ontario, Canada. In 1927, he came to the United States, where he lived in the Detroit, Mich. area until 1949. While in Detroit, Charlie was a foreman at Ford Motor Company and did truck farming. During the war years he worked at Willow Run Bomber Plant in Detroit. He moved to the Kensett area in 1949 where he farmed west of town until 1969. Later he sold DeKalb Seed in Worth County. He enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, and spending winters in Arizona. He was a member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, where he had served on the Building Committee. Survivors include his wife, Agnes T. Douglas of Kensett; one son, William C. Douglas and his wife, Deborah Leonard of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jennifer A. Douglas, Emily L. Douglas, Hannah M. Douglas, all of Cedar Rapids, and William C. Douglas, Jr. of Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Harvey Douglas of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Art Douglas of Bancroft, Ontario, Canada; one sister, Mary Evans of Arnprior, Ontario, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Mac, Percy, Frank and Dawson Douglas; and one sister, Bessie Campbell.
