Charlotte Eugenial Linden (nee) Luckason
NORTHWOOD 

     Charlotte Eugenia (Luckason) Linden, 96, of San Mateo, California,
formerly of Northwood, died Friday (Sept. 15, 1995) at Mills
Hospital, San Mateo, Calif.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kensett
Cemetery, Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes of Bethany Lutheran
Church, Kensett, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at
Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. South, Northwood.

Charlotte was born July 16, 1899 in Worth County, a daughter
of Thomas Luckason and Charlotte Luckason (nee) Rustad.

She married Carl Linden in 1949 in Hawaii.  Carl preceded
her in death in  1971.

She is survived by one brother, Andrew Luckason, Cedar Rapids;
two nephews and four nieces.

Gladys L. Jones (nee) Thompson
MASON CITY 

     Gladys L. Jones, 96, of 115 N. Jefferson Ave., died Monday
(Sept. 18, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m.  Wednesday at the
Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the
Rev. Merlin Ackerson of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home
and until time of service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in her
memory.

Gladys L. Jones was born June 8, 1899 at Belmond, the daughter
of George Norman Thompson and Mary Thompson (nee) Sandry.

She graduated from Belmond High School in 1917, then attended
Hamilton University (Hamilton Business College) in Mason City.

Gladys married J. Gilbert Jones on Dec. 14, 1920 at Oskaloosa,
Iowa.

She was a 72-year member of First United Methodist Church and
the Unity Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one grandson, David Burgraff and his wife,
Deborah of Des Moines; and one great-grandson, Andrew Burgraff
of Des Moines; nephews, Richard Whipple of Des Moines, and 
George Whipple of Louisiana, Mo.; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. Gilbert
Jones in 1986; a daughter, Ruth Burgraff; and one sister, 
Nona Whipple.

Martha R. Zaruba-Jackson
ATLANTA, Ga. 
 
     Martha R. Zaruba-Jackson, 73, died Wednesday (Sept. 13, 1995)
at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospice home in Atlanta, following
a long illness.

She was a 1939 graduate of Mason City, Iowa, High School.

During her earlier years in Mason City, she worked for Dr. R.E.
Brisbane, Northwestern States Portland Cement Company and State
Brand Creameries.

For many years, she was a resident of Santa Monica, Calif.

Her former husband, Donald G. Jackson, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sisters, Frances (Dr. Charles) Vilim
of Park Ridge, Ill., Betty (Robert) Munn of Kissimmee, Fla.,
and Audrey (Charles) Bender of Marietta, Ga.

Interment was at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa.

Clara May Strain
MASON CITY 

     Clara May Strain, 88, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Monday (Sept.
18, 1995) at her home.
     
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United
Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson
and the Rev. Sharon Betsworth of First United Methodist Church
officiating. Interment will be Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church.

Clara May Strain was born May 4, 1907, in Orleans, Neb., the
oldest daughter of Harry C. Smith and Susan K. Smith (nee) Kirtland.

She grew up in Orleans and graduated from Orleans High School.
She received her BA degree from Nebraska Wesleyan College.

Clara May taught high school math and social studies in South
Sioux City, Neb., from 1928 to 1934.

She was married to Vernon W. Strain in Sioux City on May 25,
1934. Mr. Strain died in February of 1960.

Clara May earned her master's degree in 1962 from the University
of South Dakota, Vermillion.

She taught in Dakota City, Neb,. for several years and then
was at Riverside High School in Sioux City, as a counselor/administrator,
retiring after 15 years in the Sioux City School system in 1972.

Clara May moved to Mason City in 1981 to be closer to her family.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and their families, as well as
knitting and games, until her eyesight failed.

She enjoyed her many, many friends at the Manor and reading
books on her reading machine from the Commission for the Blind.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason
City, Sarah Circle of U.M.W. Tuckabachee, 70-year member of the
P.E.O. Chapter IY, Daughters  of the American Revolution, Retired
Teachers Association of Sioux City, Business & Professional Women
of Sioux City, Eastern Star (Silver Chapter) of Sioux City and
the Zonta Service Club of Sioux City.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Swanson and her husband,
Tom, of Mason City; stepson, Jack Strain and his wife, Anita,
of Lincoln, Neb.; granddaughters, Sandy Davison and her husband,
Bruce, of Nora Springs, Tara Swanson of Denver, Colo., and 
Karla Hanson and her husband, Brent, of Mason City; stepgrandchildren,
Barbara Tabak and her husband, Fred, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Peggy Strain 
of Lincoln, Neb.; Elizabeth Strain of Lincoln, Neb.; John Strain 
and his wife, Sandy, of Lincoln, Neb., and Ken Strain of Lincoln, Neb.; 
three great-grandsons, Jordan, Dylan and Cole Davison; and 12 
stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Charles L. Smith and his wife, 
Margaret, of Bellevue, Wash.; Kenneth N. Smith and his wife, Ardean, 
of Pismo Beach, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon;
two sisters; and one brother.

Dorothy Troll (nee) Dosen
MASON CITY  

Dorothy Troll, 84, of 720 S. Polk Place, died Sunday (Sept.
17, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday
at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. with the Rev.
Carl Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. Scripture
wake service, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania
Ave.

Memorials may be given to the Dorothy Troll Memorial Fund.

Dorothy Troll was born Aug. 5, 1911 at Omaha, Neb., the daughter
of George and Sophie Dosen.

She married Peter Joseph Troll on May 10, 1956, at Paterson,
N.J.

In 1960 they moved to Mason City where she  has lived since.
Mr. Troll died in 1969.

Dorothy was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish.

Survivors include her brother, Mike Dosen of Mason City; one
sister, Anne Purdin of Tucson, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews;
several great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother,
and one sister.

Bertram `Bert' H. Kruse
CLEAR LAKE 

     Bertram ``Bert'' H. Kruse, 84, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday
(Sept. 19, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

There is no funeral service planned. Burial will be in Vinton
Cemetery, Vinton,  at the convenience of the family.

There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated.  Major
Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City,
is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Hospice oF North Iowa.

Bertram Kruse was born Sept. 14, 1911, at Vinton, the son of
Henry G. Kruse and Olive Kruse (nee) Barnes.  He graduated from Vinton
High School and Yale University.  He was a reporter for the Hartford
Courant Newpaper then worked in public relations for New Departure
Division of General Motors.  He married Mary E. Traer on June
21, 1935, at Vinton.  He served in the U.S. Army serving one
year in Japan with the U.S. occupational forces.  The Kruses
moved to Clear Lake in 1951, where Bert then published the Cerro
Gordo Farmer until 1966.

He was an author of Light Verse published in the Saturday Evening
Post, Wall Street Journal, Tennis Magazine and other national
journals.  He constructed cross word puzzle published in major
papers such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and the
Minneapolis Star and Tribune as well as cross word puzzle books.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Traer of Clear Lake;
one son George Traer Kruse, San Francisco, Calif.; and one daughter,
Mary, and husband, Jerry Weidler, Montgomery, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two
brothers.

Richard Karl Boone
MASON CITY  

     Richard Karl Boone, 72, of 5024 S. 83rd Terrace, Ralston, Neb.,
formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Sept. 15, 1995) at Midland
Community Hospital, Papillion, Neb.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Herbert
Shafer of the Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Richard was born June 2, 1923 in Nora Springs, son of Ross A. Boone
and Meta R. Boone (nee) Brandenburg.

He married Cathryn Jane Van Nostrand on June 6, 1943 in Mason
City at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Richard was a World War II veteran serving in the United States
Marine Corps.

He was vice president in charge of sales for Frigid Meats and
E.S.I. Meat Companies.

He retired in Mountain Home, Ark. and had recently moved to
Omaha, Neb.

Survivors include his wife, Cathryn Jane Boone of Omaha, Neb.;
one daughter, Pamela C. Collins and her husband, Thomas W. of
Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Rick Wrobel of Bartlett, Ill., 
Kirk and Kory Collins, both of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, 
Rachel Calhoun, Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roscoe `Rocky' (Jr.) Burgess
MASON CITY  

     Roscoe ``Rocky'' Burgess Jr., 65, of 210 N. Madison Ave., died
Monday (Sept. 18, 1995) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center
East.
                            
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Hogan-Bremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Doris Sherer
officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a
flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial
Association.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of services
at the funeral chapel.

Roscoe was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Mason City, son of 
Roscoe and Elsie Burgess.

He married Margaret Fisher on Oct. 14, 1950, in Mason City.

Roscoe served in the United States Navy.  He then was employed
by R & R Construction, Central States Auto Auction, the Sugar
Beet plant and as a bus driver for Headstart.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Burgess of Mason City;
two sons, Steven Burgess and his wife, Ann, of Des Moines, and
James Burgess of Mason City; four daughters, Jackie Burgess,
RoxAnn Burgess, Julia Burgess (Jimmie Lee), and Cindy Cunningham
and her husband, Randy, all of Mason City; and one foster son,
Ronald Willis and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mason City; three brothers,
Lorenzo Burgess of Marshalltown, Jack and his wife, Deloris Burgess,
and Jerry Burgess, all of Mason City; three sisters, Lola Boomgarden
and her husband, Martin; Betty Steece and her husband, Spence
of Mason City and JoAnn Anderson and her husband, Dan, of Clear
Lake; nine grandchildren, Laura Woodard of Des Moines, 
Steven ``Butch'' Matthess of Des Moines, Michelle Burgess (Allen) of
Mason City, Keith Burgess and his fiancee, LeAnn of Des Moines,
Johnny Cunningham, Dalaina Burgess, LaTeya Burgess, Jimmie ``Levi''
Burgess, and Patricia Godfrey, all of Mason City; five great-grandchildren,
Cheyenne, Dakota ``Cody,'' Damon, Jessmyn, and Allen Jr. ``Buba'';
and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Burgess
and Dale Burgess, two sisters, Junella Eden and Iva Pauline Burgess;
and one daughter, Carol Ann Burgess.

Clemon L. Beck
FOREST CITY  

     Clemon L. Beck, 83, of Forest City, died Monday (Sept. 18, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with Timothy
Hartman of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall officiating.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time
on Saturday at the chapel.

According to his wishes, the body was cremated. Inurnment was
in the Memorial Park Columbarium, U.S. Highway 18 West, Mason
City.

Clemon L. Beck was born on Feb. 17, 1912 in Garwin, the son
of Oscar Beck and Lillie Beck (nee) Thompson.

He attended and received his education in the rural public school
system near Garwin.

After completing his formal education, he farmed with his parents
on the family farm near Garwin. He was inducted into the U.S.
Air Force serving in the South Pacific during World War II, until
his honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Irene West on Nov. 26, 1945, in
Des Moines.

Clemon worked as a custodian for South East Polk Schools in
Des Moines and also drove the school bus for 10 years until his
retirement in the mid 1970s.

Following his retirement, he was a crossing guard for the South
Polk Schools for three years until his retirement in the early
1980s. Following his retirement as a crossing guard, he was given
an award from the South East Polk School staff, its students
and from the police department for his faithful and caring service
to the children.

Clemon and his wife, Irene had lived in Altoona since 1959 and
had moved to Forest City in 1994 to be near their son and his
wife, Dennis and Toni Beck, becoming a resident of the Lake Mills
Care Center in January of 1995.

He enjoyed gardening, working with his hands fixing things around
the house, was an avid baseball and Chicago Cubs fan. He was
good natured, loved his family, children and his dog, Ginger.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Beck of Forest City; one son,
Dennis Beck and his wife, Toni, of Forest City; five grandchildren,
Joe Fuller and his wife, Gail of Harrisonville, Mo.; Matt Fuller
of Los Angeles, Calif.; Brett Fuller and his wife, Gina, of Kansas
City, Kan.; Mike Adams of Oletha, Kan., and Rachael Adams of
Tampa, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Forrest and Brooke Fuller
and Alica Adams; one brother, Gerald Beck and his wife, Beryl,
of Garwin; and three sisters, Flossie Beck, Gladys Beck and 
Helen Rodgers, all of Garwin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Volla Beck; 
and one sister, Maggie Beck.

     Sylvia Ellis Ehlebracht, 62, of Clear Lake, formerly of Rudd,
died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit, Mason City.
     
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rudd United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Debra Stowers officiating.  Burial
will be in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Rudd.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial
Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to service
time Friday at the church.

Sylvia Ellis Ehlebracht was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Charles City,
the daughter of Grover Jones and Francis Jones (nee) Sullivan.  She 
married Ray Ehlebracht on Aug. 28, 1950, at the Little Brown Church,
Nashua.

Sylvia grew up in Charles City and moved to Rudd after her marriage.
She and her husband farmed and also operated R and R Sports
with their son for many years.  She worked part time at the Mental
Health Center, Mason City.

She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren
play sports.  She enjoyed music and dancing and liked to golf.

Survivors include one son, Ray Jr. Ehlebracht. and his wife,
Nancy, Rudd; one daughter, Patti Anderson and her husband, Michael,
Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Tina Hudspeth and her husband,
Kerry, Jacksonville, N.C., and Travis and Tonya Ehlebracht, both
of Rudd; one great-granddaughter, Darielle Hudspeth, Jacksonville,
N.C.; a special friend, Bill Mahone, Clear Lake; three sisters,
Edith Sonne, Nashua, and Betty Hull and Velma Mansfield, both
of Waco, Texas; and one brother, Virgil Smith, Alexander, Va.

     Robert E. Will, 76, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 1995) at Kossuth
Regional Health Center.

Turner officiating.  Burial will be in the LuVerne Cemetery.

on Saturday.

Robert E. Will was born April 30, 1919, in Rockwell City.

     Alzena F. Wendel, 90, of Meservey, died Wednesday (Sept. 20,

Funeral Chapel, Belmond, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating.
Burial will be in Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery, Belmond.

Alzena F. Wendel was born Oct. 27, 1904, in Franklin County.

Survivors include three nieces, Oralene Christians and Grace Reikens, 
both of Kanawha, and Evelyn Libersky, Lyle, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two
sisters and four brothers.

Marjorie E. Forbes
MANLY 

     Marjorie E. Bartusek, 85, died Thursday (Sept. 21, 1995) at
the Manly Care Center.
                
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at  Bethlehem
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ernest Thompson, interim pastor,
officiating.  Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bride Colonial Chapel,
110 East Spring St., and one hour prior to service time on Saturday
at the church.

Marjorie Evelyn Bartusek was born on May 20, 1910, in Oelwein,
the daughter of Claude O. Forbes and Iva Forbes (nee) Rains.  She 
attended and received her education in the Manly School System.  After
completing her formal education she was united in marriage to
Merle E. Bartusek on June 24, 1928, by the Rev. A.H. Miles, pastor
of Manly English Lutheran.  He preceded her in death on March
4, 1976.  She was baptized on April 28, 1935, at the Manly English
Lutheran Church by the Rev. George G. Parker.  Her husband, Merle,
received his pilot's license in 1948 and purchased a two passenger
orange colored Piper Vagabond, and on July 2, 1949, Merle and
Marjorie left the Mason City airport for the west by way of Des
Moines.  They had previously made no trips farther than to Des
Moines and Waterloo.  They followed the route planned for them
by the C.A.A., staying within the cruising speed, stopping at
St. Joseph, Mo., the first night.  They proceeded through Kansas
and Oklahoma and arrived at Wichita Falls, Texas, in a dust storm.
 
They went on by way of Tucson, Ariz., and arrived at Banning,
Calif., the third day from where they proceeded to their destination
at Sun Valley, Calif.  At one time on the trip there was but
a gallon of gas in the tank with considerable distance to go
to the next scheduled stop, but they made it.  They had an invalid
daughter who had taken the constant and devoted attention of
this couple for 20 years.  What this couple has attained through
reverses is remarkable, proving that when two people set their
minds to accomplish a goal they can do wonders.

She enjoyed collecting stamps and was an avid baseball and Minnesota
Twins fan, and also enjoyed other sports.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lydia Circle,
and the Rock Island Railroad Switchmen's Ladies Auxiliary, all
in Manly.

She is survived by one sister, Neola Williams and her husband,
Jess of Bullhead City, Ariz.; seven sisters-in-law, Thelma Forbes
of San Jose, Calif., Francis Huizel of Manly, Daisey Lee of Kenyon,
Minn., Mary Black of Crown Point, Ind., Betty Harrison of Des
Moines, Evelyn Bartusek and Miriam Peterson, both of Mason City;
several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ing Stauner of
Manly; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents;
two daughters, Marilyn June Bartusek and Marlene Jeanette Bartusek; 
and a brother, Edgar Forbes.

     Ira E. Smith, 82, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 1995) at the Good
Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

Burial will be in Grafton Cemetery.

Ira E. Smith was born May 11, 1913, in Martin County, Minn.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Smith of Grafton; two sons, 
Bernard Smith of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Gary Smith of 
Bloomington, Minn.; one sister, Violet Girard of Fairmont, Minn.; 
and three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.

Blanche Marie (nee) Meyer
RUDD  

     Blanche (Mrs. Alvin) Bortz, 82, of Rudd, died Wednesday (Sept.
20, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eden
Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family
greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Hauser Funeral Home,
1205 S. Main St., Charles City, and one hour prior to service
time Saturday at the church.

Blanche Marie (Meyer) Bortz was born Sept. 10, 1913, at Floyd,
the daughter of William A. Meyer and Mary Effie (nee) Tolle Meyer.  
She attended grade school in Bassett and the Colwell High School.
 
On June 26, 1932, she and Alvin Bortz were married at Albert
Lea, Minn.  They farmed north of Rudd for 60 years.

She was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church, Floyd County
Farm Bureau, and had visited nursing homes in this area for the
past 11 years.

Living family members include a son, Donald Bortz and his wife,
Helen, of Rudd; and two sisters, Refa (Mrs. Loran) Essman and
Edna (Mrs. Lyle) Jacobson, both of Canon City, Colo.  There are
two grandsons, Larry Bortz of Nora Springs, and Mark Bortz and

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin in

Rodney O. Urdahl
MASON CITY 

     Rodney O. Urdahl, 72, of 125 14th St. N.W., died Wednesday
(Sept. 20, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.
     
A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic
Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. John R. Kremer officiating.
 Following services his body will be cremated.  Inurnment will
take place 11 a.m. Monday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural wake service beginning
at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Rodney Urdahl Memorial Fund.

Rodney Ornell Urdahl was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Northwood,
the eldest son of Norman and Mabel Urdahl.  After the death of
his father in 1929, Rodney and his mother moved to Mason City
where he attended Mason City Schools and graduated from Mason
City High School in 1941.

Rodney attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy in
Kings Point, N.Y., from 1941 to 1944, graduating on Aug. 18,
1944.  Rodney served as a lieutenant from 1944 to his discharge
in 1946.  In 1946, he returned to Mason City, marrying Veronica
Catherine Carney on Sept. 27, 1947, at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Always interested in politics, Rodney sought the office of Iowa
State Senator in 1950.  He worked as a salesman for Coca-Cola
Bottling Company until 1955.  He also worked at the Lehigh Cement
Plant in the laboratory from 1955 to 1966.  He was owner of the
Urdahl Agency, a Tax, Real Estate, Bookkeeping Business, from
1955 to present.

A great pleasure to him was his grandchildren, Jason, Jacob,
and Derrick.  Rodney enjoyed playing golf and gin rummy with
his friends.  He also enjoyed the family dog, Ginger.  Rodney
was well liked by his many friends and acquaintances.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus
Council #1006, and he served as treasurer of the Highland Park
Men's Club.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Urdahl of Mason City; two
sons, Jay Urdahl and his wife, Kristine, and Michael Urdahl,
all of Mason City; and three grandchildren, Jason, Jacob and
Derrick Urdahl, all of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dennis Urdahl; 
and one sister in infancy.

FOREST CITY 

     Donald D. Faber, 67, died Thursday (Sept. 21, 1995) at St.
Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.  Burial
will be in Madison Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Petersen
Lund Funeral Home.

The family requests memorials to the United Methodist Church
Maintenance Fund.

Donald D. Faber was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Hancock County.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Faber of Forest City; two
daughters, Kathryn Ann VanDriel of Mequon, Wis., and 
Cynthia Diane Mallinger of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, 
Dennis Dean Faber of Fertile, and David Warner Faber 
of Vancouver, British Columbia; two sisters, Betty Indvik 
and Peggy Tjelta, both of Forest City; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

     Valma Moore, 87, of 601 Second St. S.E., died Friday (Sept.
22, 1995) at  Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westfork
United Methodist Church, rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Edward
Clevenger officiating.  Burial will be in the Westfork Cemetery,
rural Sheffield.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Grarup Funeral
Home, Sheffield.

Valma J. Moore was born April 20, 1908, in Talmage, Neb., a
daughter of Robert Deshler and Eliza Webber Deshler.  She attended
grade school in Plainview, Mitchell County, Kansas.  At the age
of 18, she moved with her parents to Westfork Township, Franklin
County, Iowa.

On Dec. 24, 1928, she was united in marriage to Curtis Moore
in the Baptist parsonage in Charles City.  They returned to the
Westfork area where they made their home farming until moving
into Hampton in 1979.  Valma enjoyed cooking and working with
all types of crafts.

She was a member of the Westfork United Methodist Church, the
United Methodist womens group, the Westfork Cemetery Society
and the Rebecca Lodge of Sheffield.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis, of Hampton; two daughters,
Lois Gauley and her husband, Richard, of Sheffield, and 
Bonnie DeVries and her husband, Kenneth, of Hampton; one son, 
Robert Moore and his wife, Nancy, of Alexander; 13 grandchildren; 
and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, two
brothers and four sisters.

CLEAR LAKE  

     Anna R. Chinberg, 92, of Clear Lake, formerly of Fort Dodge,
died Friday (Sept. 22, 1995) at the Oak Manor Care Center in
Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday in the chapel of
Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, with the Rev.
Edward Phillips, pastor of Riverside United Methodist Church,
officiating.  Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery, Callender.

Friends may call after 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Anna R. Lutz was born May 27, 1903, in Duncombe, where she attended
school. She married Tracy Gray in Waterloo, where they established
their home.  She later moved to Fort Dodge, where she was employed
at Constantine's Restaurant for many years.

In 1937, she married Sevrin Chinberg in Callender.  They established
their home on a farm near Callender.  In 1939, they moved to
a farm near Belmond.  They later moved back to the Fort Dodge
area.  She was employed as a nurses aide at the Hamilton County
Home until her retirement.

From 1973 to 1989, she was with the Foster Grandparent Program
in the Fort Dodge school system.

She was a member of the Veterans of World War   I Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Brandenburg, Clare,
and June Brasser, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cleva Burrell,
Belton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Tracy Gray
and Sevrin Chinberg; a son, Neal; daughter, Gertrude;  granddaughter,
Cathy; great-grandson, Timmy; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Marie McDonald
GARNER  

     Memorial services for Marie McDonald, 103, of Garner, who died
Thursday (Sept. 21, 1995) at the Concord Care Center, will be
held at 1:30 p.m. next Sunday, Oct. 8,  at the United Methodist
Church in Garner with the Rev. Robert T. Ellis as officiant.

Her body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine
and Health Sciences in Des Moines.  Burial of her cremains will
be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Mary Marie McDonald was born Sept. 4, 1892, in Orleans, Neb.

Survivors include her grandson, John Flattery of Garner; six
great-grandchildren, Paul Flattery and Karla Flattery of Ames,
Steven Flattery of Garner, Colleen Flattery of Iowa City, 
Megan Flattery of Garner and Amanda Jo Flattery of Yarnell, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, William H. Lockett
and John A. McDonald; one daughter; a grandson; her parents;
and a sister.

     Emmett D. Beckner, 63, of Mitchell, died Friday (Sept. 22,
1995) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at  Faith Lutheran
Church in Mitchell with the Rev. Rose Marie Lewis officiating.
 Burial will be in  Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, with military
rites by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 tonight at the Champion Funeral Home,
Osage, and one hour prior to service at the church Monday.

Emmett Beckner was born March 27, 1932, in Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Beckner, Mitchell; daughters,
Julie McGibbon, Pamela Krause and Sheley Lotspeich, all of South
St. Paul, Minn., Diane Lee, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Lynda Karels,
Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; a sister, Phyllis Levendusky, Mitchell;
and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents  and an infant brother.

     William K. Carr, 97, a former resident of 311 Second Ave., died
Friday (Sept. 22, 1995) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest
Home.

Congregational Church with the Rev. Jack Ivey officiating.  Burial
will be in  Riverside Cemetery.

William Kinsey Carr was born April 25, 1898,  near Mechanicsville.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean Cummings of Spring Lake,
Mich.; a son, David Carr of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; one sister,
Lois Carr of Sedalia, Mo.; three grandchildren; and one 
great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eathel Carr; two brothers;
two sisters; and a granddaughter.

     Mary Louis Borschel, 82, of Clear Lake, died Friday (Sept. 22,
1995) at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Fred
Lewis of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church  officiating.
Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 tonight and one hour prior to services
Monday at the chapel.  The family of Mary Louis Borschel has
requested that memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist
Church in Clear Lake or to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit in Mason City in her memory.

Mary Louis Borschel was born Oct. 5, 1912,  in Des Moines, a
daughter of Louis Delbert Lynxwiler and Ethel Lynxwiler (nee) Hunsinger.  
The family moved to Cedar Rapids when she was a small child and
she received her education in the Cedar Rapids school system,
graduating from Cedar Rapids High School in 1930.

She was united in marriage to Ardell ``Al'' Edward Borschel
on April 22, 1930,  in Oklahoma City, Okla.  He preceded her
in death in January of 1977. 

In 1957, they moved to Clear Lake where she worked for several
years at the Grethen House.  She enjoyed reading, golfing, watching
golf on television and  feeding birds and squirrels, but her
great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Lou Christeson and her husband,
Mearle, of Osage; three grandchildren, Lisa Spencer and her husband,
Stan, of Nora Springs, Bradley Christeson and his wife, Liz,
of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kevin Holden of Bettendorf; three
great-grandchildren, Steve and Sarah Malone of Nora Springs and
Bradley Christeson Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind.; and one sister,
Dawn Bennett and her husband, Don, of Springfield, Mo.; as well
as other relatives and friends.
