Hi, there!! Well, I’m glad to see you made it to my little homepage. Where do I begin?? I guess first of all, I should probably explain the title “Kathy’s Stable”. You see, I’m kind of horse crazy. Yes, I love the 4-footed creatures and have since I was small. As a matter of fact, I currently own two of these beasts (both American Quarter Horses). In addition, I also love the 4-wheeled ones (Ford Mustangs), too! So this title really has a dual purpose!!
Anyway, I have lots of other interests, too (and not quite as expensive) plus I work full time and have two kids to chase after (actually three, if you count my husband!) so I keep pretty busy. My husband and I have been married almost 10 years but have known each other for over 16 years (we were high school sweet hearts). We’re both originally from Oelwein, a small town in N.E. Iowa.
I’m a CPA and have worked at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in the finance/accounting department since 1990. I prepare a lot of financial reports and try to keep the auditors as happy as possible. I also am involved in the DNR’s 3 year old computer network as an area network representative, which means I am a liason between the data processing department and the end users in my area helping with problems, questions, etc. about the network and computers in general. This keeps things interesting to say the least! Prior to working for the DNR, I worked at the State Auditor’s Office on the other side of the fence doing audits of state agencies. In 1987, I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in accounting.

OK, enough of the boring stuff. Let’s see... back to my horses. As I mentioned, I have two Quarter Horses - both mares and both red dun in color. The oldest is Miss Mitzy Coin (Mitzy), she’s 25 years old and is the mama of my other horse, JMB Cinnamon Centavo (Tavi) who is 6 years old. Right now, they’re both at my parents’ house 3 hours away so I don’t get to do much with them but hopefully I will find a place to keep them here soon. I mainly just enjoy trail riding but would like to get into showing someday.

I also mentioned Ford Mustangs up above and, yes, I’m just as crazy over them as my husband (even though I’m a woman)! The Mustang bug bit me after my husband (boyfriend at the time) got his first car, a 1966 Mustang coupe. When my parents started looking for a car for me to drive to college, we managed to talk them into buying a Mustang! They bought me a 1965 coupe, which we still have today.
Not only do I like old Mustangs, I also like late models, too. As a matter of fact, I enjoy racing them! In the summer of 1995, I competed in a full season of SCCA regional Solo II autocrossing with our modified 1991 Mustang GT and won the SCCA Des Moines Valley Region 1995 ESPL Series Championship for my efforts. I also enjoy driving our GT at open track events that we go to such as the SAAC Road America event. In addition, I have also drag raced and surprised myself in 1995 by winning the women’s bracket racing (against 12 other women) at the SAAC event in Tulsa (it was the first time I’d ever drag raced!).

One other thing I enjoy, which seems to consume lots of my time, is running the 1982-1993 Mustang GT Registry with my husband. I put together the newsletter, write articles for it, etc. and right now I’m in the process of designing a user-friendly program for our database in “Paradox” to input information, process reports, etc. This involves some programming which I don’t have much experience in but am learning rapidly!
My ultimate dream cars (which I’m going to buy someday when I’m rich) are: a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT-500 KR convertible (has to be Acapulco Blue, with black interior and a 4-speed) and a 1989 Saleen SSC Mustang. I don’t ask for much, do I?
Ummm, my other hobbies and interests include (in no particular order)...
I also enjoy watching autoracing - Winston Cup, IndyCar and NHRA to be exact.
My favorite IndyCar driver was Jacques Villeneuve (who is moving to Formula 1 this year). I guess I’ll have to start watching F1 racing now! Click here to find out more about Jacques.
I am also a HUGE fan of Lyn St. James who was 1992 Indy 500 “Rookie of the Year”. She is a great inspiration to any woman interested in being actively involved in autoracing!
Another inspirational woman driver is Shelly Anderson who pilots an NHRA dragster.
