The "Raiders" first got together in the Spring of 1987 for a "jam session". After a lot of laughs, the group decided to try it again, and soon, word got out. Later that summer, the band did its debut performance at the MacNider Arts Festival, which resulted in several return engagements. After 22 years, five of the original seven members are still in the band, one having passed away, and the other moving from the area. The band has vowed to "keep playing until they get it right". In the meantime, they're having a great time trying.
The "Raiders of the Lost Art" has served as the host band of the Lakeside DixieFest for the past 16 years. After having played four consecutive years at the Brucemore Jazz Festival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three of the members of the "Raiders" decided that North Iowa could support such a festival, and the Lakeside DixieFest was the result. In addition to the Lakeside DixieFest and the Brucemore Jazz Festival, the "Raiders" have performed at the first Doc Evans Jazz Festival in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the MacNider Arts Festival in Mason City, in addition to private parties and numerous church services in the area.
The band's CD appropriately titled "IT'S ABOUT TIME!", will be available at the Festival.
