19th Annual DixieFest will feature top Midwest bands
For the past 18 years, during the last weekend in July, Dixieland jazz has invaded Clear Lake, Iowa. Visitors from surrounding states, across the nation, and from several international countries, have gathered to hear what has been termed “America’s only original art form”, traditional jazz music, performed by musicians from not only the Upper-Midwest, but as far away as Australia and France. The serene lakeside venue comes alive with sounds that were heard in the long-gone pavilions that lined the nearby lakeshore during the early years of the 20th century.
On July 23rd and 24th, the 19th Annual Lakeside DixieFest will include music from five different bands to include “New Red Onion Jazz Babies”, from Kansas City, “Rev. Al Townsend’s Wonderful World Jazz Band” from Lacrosse, “Party Gras Classic Jazz Band” from Des Moines, “Dixiefest Student All-Star Band” from North Iowa, and the host band “The Raiders of the Lost Art” from Mason City, Iowa.
Concerts will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturday evening, and from Noon until 9:00 pm on Sunday. There will be 9:30 AM church services in the park led by “The Raiders of the Lost Art”.
The Lakeside DixieFest continues to be one of the very few traditional jazz festivals in the country that is free-to-the-public, thanks to the generosity of several area businesses and organizations, and contributions from individual patrons.
All concerts will be held in the Ludwig Wangberg Band Shell in Clear Lake’s City Park, right on the shore of beautiful Clear Lake.
Come early and join us for a Triple-decker Lakefest weekend to include the 23rd Annual Iowa Storytelling Festival, held on Friday evening and Saturday, and the 34th Annual Clear Lake Art Sail, all day Saturday.
