HOURS: Early Intervention Services are provided to eligible children year round. Office hours are 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday through Friday, mid August through May. During the summer months please call the Arrowhead AEA Central Office in Ft. Dodge at 800-669-2325, ext. 5400. The county offices have answering machines for after hour and summer non-emergency message usage.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: The goal of Early Intervention is to provide coordinated services to children, birth to age three with developmental disabilities or a high potential for developing disabilities. Family-centered services are delivered through a process called the Individualized Family Service Plan. The IFSP can draw upon any of the following services and professionals: Assistive Technology; Audiology; Communication: Family Training: Health Services: Medical Diagnosis and Evaluation; Nursing: Nutrition; Occupational therapy; Physical therapy; Social Work; Special Instruction (Home Teachers); Transportation; and Vision Services. Additionally the IFSP tries to utilize community resources and supports.

FEES: There are no charges for the Arrowhead Area Education agency Services. Other services provided through an IFSP may use sliding fee scales or charges when allowed by law.

ELIGIBILITY: 25% or greater delay in development in the areas of vision, hearing, cognition, communication, social/emotional development, motor development including fine and gross motor skills and adaptive or self-help or a high potential for developing delays based on medical diagnosis.

AREA SERVED: Region 5 covers a nine county area based on the Area Education Agency borders and include Hamilton, Humboldt and most of Wright Counties.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Anyone can call in a referral to Iowa Early Intervention services if they are wondering if a child is developing appropriately. A screening can be done with parental permission to see if further evaluation is needed.

TRANSPORTATION: Most of the Early Intervention Services are done at the child’s home if the family desires.

ACCESSIBILITY: All Arrowhead Area Education Agency Offices are handicapped accessible.

LANGUAGES: Interpretation available as needed.
